BlaserF3
Good point It would help if robmiller had given us a little bit of information, such as "I am living at home with Mum and Dad what is the best for me scenario" then he could be given a different answer than what I said. I realise that not everyone on here is a house owner but unless we are told what his situation is that what I post is irrelevant to his query. David BASC
Blaser, BASC jobs are advertised in the sporting press you are free to see what the salary structure is. If you look you will perhapse see it is not quite as high as you may have thought! As for the directors all being on over £100k - well that is complete rot! but I will not get drawn into a salary debate. Please lets not get bogged down on insurance- it is just a very smal part of what associations offer, and it is what they offer and what they have delivered and what we expect htem to deliver in the future that is realy important. robmiller
Blaser?! What are you ranting on about!? I simply want insurance for my field sports hobbies! David BASC
Well OK Dave, lets talk insurance - what aspects of civil, legal and employer liability have we not fully covered to everyone's satisfaction? David
DaveK
Well OK Dave, lets talk insurance - what aspects of civil, legal and employer liability have we not fully covered to everyone's satisfaction? David We've covered the lot David. So why do we need to broaden it out to other aspects?
BlaserF3
Blaser?! What are you ranting on about!?I simply want insurance for my field sports hobbies! Where on earth did me still breastfeeding from my mum at home come into it? What I was saying that I personally am covered for sporting use with a shotgun on my household policy and that is all I need. If you were living with you Mum you would not be covered on a similar policy. But if I needed one I would say that SACS is good value. Does it cover the whole of the UK? Does that sound all right? robmiller
I am more than happy with the cover i have received from BASC, 2 of my permissions are big huntsmen and driving up today and yest commented on a BASC badge i put in my car. I dont really see the argument going on here apart from BASC v SACS? If competition wasnt evident all would be stale! Am sure there are bonuses on either side. Both David and his colleagues at BASC have been v helpful to me with regards to a Firearms Application. I understand your quibble Blaser. David BASC
To be honest there is no reason for any 'competition' between BASC and SACS, or anyone else for that matter. We are all on the same side, doing our bit for the sports we represent and the members that choose to support us. We have pretty much the same objectives - the preservation to shoot/ fish/ hunt (within the law) without others trying to stop us through ignorance and prejudice. No one organisation is perfect by any means, I am sure we could spend countless hours picking holes in each others preferred organisation, but what would that achieve? Nothing. All the organisations are answerable to their respective members, those that offer what their members want and need will continue to grow. All the orgnisations offer legal liability insurance, and indeed as Mr B says some home policies will also (although I think you will find that £2 million is a bit on the light side for some land owners) It is highly irresponsible for anyone to go shooting without propper insurance cover, I am sure we are all agreed on that. Best wishes David
DaveK
All the organisations are answerable to their respective members, those that offer what their members want and need will continue to grow. So when will BASC go down that route then? What we're seeing is BASC doing something then selling it to the members. There had to be something we'd agree on

David BASC
Dave, As I have said before, BASC is run by the elected Council of members, who take advice and guidance from the various committees that report into them, populated by a mixture of members and non member experts. It is the Council of members that set BASC policy and monitor how the executive staff delivers on that policy. To say that BASC is doing things and then selling it to the membership is just silly nonsense, you make an accusation like this for what purpose Dave? Solidarity? The defence of shooting? The good of the sport? Or just to have a pop at BASC? I wonder what that will achieve for shooting Dave? I have said before that BASC is not perfect, no organisation is, but we will always try to do our best. But it is important for you to accept that BASC is a membership organisation run by members. Lets all work together to support shooting, regardless of which organisation we choose to support. David

reddan
I was a bit skint when I started out last year and was interested in possible clay comps as well so went with the cheaper option of CPSA. After a few months I have come to understand the error of my ways and will go BASC next time. I think it is really important that we have a voice as it seems like many organisations have it in for the sport and this is the only way to fight back. However, I do think that the main organisations like BASC, CA, CPSA should all unite and become one. Two reasons, firstly the combined organisation would be large enough to compete with the media machine that is RSPB etc. Secondly, the fact that I want to support the sport and so get BASC but then want to clay shoot and so have to get CPSA as well is wrong (plus expensive) really. Just my 2p. Dan
