starlight32
I was shooting some pea stubble yesterday and while in the hide, a 4x4 passed the field entrance a few hundered yards away. It stopped, promptly reversed up and then careered across the field weaving all over the place like they were rallying..... They could'nt see me at all, but they had noticed the decoys (I had no rotary up)....Anyway out popped a nice little chav tribe, with two adults and a staffy cross. Straight across the pea stubble and into the field behind of barley- throwing a ball for the dog from one of those 'spoon' jobbies. Can you work people out? I had seen enough and went off to have a word.... Usual old pony, And these are the replies after a few strutured questions' 'we arn't doing any harm' ' We have just bought the 4x4 and wanted to try it out' 'The kids like running though the high crops' 'There is no such thing as tresspass no more-All land is free access' I got them to leave anyhow, rang the farmer and let him know the score. He was happy-commented on how it good it was to have someone knocking about. You can see what aggro it must be for a landowners these days, I don't think I would want it for love nor money. Billy.
It's a complete shame. The utter ignorance some people display... How could you not know that you are causing damage to crops! ...and there was me earlier hopping between patches in the wheat to pick up a shot pigeon, so not to cause any damage! badshot
It is a nightmare that gets worse all the time. The 'right to roam' gave the whole country the impression that they could go where they please, it has not been made clear that it is still only certain areas that are free to roam on, limited by what is grown etc. as well. It is true that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. If the government and media would give equal coverage to the WHOLE story there would be a lot less misunderstandings, but telling the great unwashed that they can now go anywhere they please is better at selling things and winning votes than telling them that they are free to roam certain areas but there are still restrictions in place to protect crops and livestock. I was once told by a police officer to lock all gates on the farm to stop interlopers, I had to point out to him that I would be in the wrong by doing this as a byway now runs right through the farm, it never used to but was reclassified from a rupp. We surfaced this rupp at our own expense to gain access to our farm, now it is used and abused by offroaders, do you think the council will now maintain it for us? Will they *******.
markb
Just waite till the costal access thing comes into play, that's going to cause aload of hassle to our wildfowling mates. Sometimes I feel like concreteing over our fields and turning them into a carpark, probably make more money
