Starting Up

I'm looking to start building up a decent decoying kit.

Will I be ok with UKshootwarehouse shell decoys with the springy-sticks? quality ok?

What will be next on the hit list after that or will 10 /20 shells bobbing do the trick?

What are Sillosocks? are they a free standing product or do they go over existing decoys.

I dont think i'll go down the magnet route...for now... They seem a bit more bother than they are worth to me.

As usual...any help would be great, thanks

EDIT: forgot: any decent/cheapish (online) places to get cammo for a basic hide?

Hi mate, If you have the cash, get yourself a 2ply stealth ghost camo net  you should be able to pick one up for around £30.

A decent set of adjustable hide poles with foot plates will be around £40.

I`d pay the bit extra and get a set of flocked shell decoys instead of the normal plastic painted jobs

I thought about buying silosocks but was told that they can eventually peel If they are exposed to damp conditions so I opted for flocked shells.

You can buy silosocks jackets that fit over your normal plastic shells, but to me that Is a waste of cash :good:

A cheap camo net will and cheap poles will also do the job but you will eventually want to upgrade both.

Try egay or army surpluss stores for netting, and wickes / argos for cheap poles

hope this helps.

jase.

Everybody has different opinions based on their own experiences.

You need at least 4 adjustable hide poles (I use 5) and a cammo net.

I have exMoD nets which are cheap, but heavy and I will be buying a 2ply stealth net soon to reduce carrying weight.

I prefer shell decoys to full bodied (cheaper and don't take up so much room).

Flocked are good, but I also use plain plastic and put the sillosocks sleeves on them , which I think are excellent.

Don't forget you get a Pigeon Watch discount at UKShootwarehouse.

Look in the DIY section for plans on how to make your own floater/bouncer and dead bird cradles.

Like the spring pegs on the decoys, floater/bouncers add important movement to your layout.
