tape on the end of rifle

Several friends of mine have done it for years on high powered big game rifles. I've been around when guides in Alaska and Canada are discussing the same topic, and I've heard nothing other than " one piece of black electrical tape over the end of the barrel". Nothing wrapped around the barrel, just a piece covering. Never heard of any problems.

These guys are hunting in snow and ice and riding snow machines over 100 miles a day, so snow and debris is definitely a problem without some protection.

I use masking tape and have done for years . You can shoot straight through it without any problems . The tape will be long gone before the bullet exits the barrel as the air and gas that is in front of the bullet will blow the tape away befor the bullet is on its way .

On the DSC1 course two years ago it was part of the advice we were given both during the safety talk and the ballistics talk. They showed us pictures of rifles that had been fired with debris in the barrel, they left a strong impression on me. I use wide black electrical tape all the time over the end of my mod when out stalking.
