Will Beasley
Not meaning to rub it in Nick but we actually had a bloody good day out yesterday. We setup some guys on some peas where we had seen a bit of activity in the adjacent wood. Then down the road we set another two hides on another block of peas about 3 miles away. Well, to be honest I wasn't really expecting much action and neither were my guys but then all hell broke loose! The last two hides started going like crazy, with birds going into the decoys in groups of 5-25 at a time and they bagged 50 & 60 respectivley. The first two lads we setup shot about 20 from 12 until 5pm and then it went bananas on their field too and they finished up with 60 a peice! They were still coming in very hard at 7 pm but we packed up as they'd had an entertaining day and I always like to let the birds have a chance to feed at the end of the day in case they have young. All in all everyone went home having fired around a couple hundred shots each grinning from ear to ear. Splendid! Not what we were expecting at all! Doc
I had a reasonable day yesterday on some winter rape which looked more like spring rape with... weeds.Pigeons have been hammering that for months.I had my 5 year old son with me for only the second time and unfortunately he got bored ...despite some good action.I had 41 pigeons with 64 shots in less than 3 hours. When I packed pigeons were still coming and I shot the last one after i had packed the hide and my little one was busy collecting some pigeons!!!I had shot 36 and 22 on the same field the previous 2 weekends and I will revisit the field in a few days... barrie0
Never mind D , I was down the farm yesterday and saw about 3 that flew over sky high and going what seemed like 80 mph in the wind . Still had a crack at a few jackdaws and took the "Beast" to the clay club again today 44/60 , not as good as last week but can't wait till the farmers crops get blown over as he reckons they do every june/july and he says it get's attacked hard by the woodies and crows , then the "beast" may get some decent action .
