pendle
A mate of mine was told on here approx 2 years ago it would be safe to use a sak on his 223.I told him not to bother risking it any of you got any views on this he might listen
casts_by_fly
It isn't rated for it and I personally wouldn't do it. That said, I put my Sak on my 17 AH and it did just fine for 20-25 shots when I put it away. Having since taken it apart and cleaned it, I can see where the first 3-4 baffles have a bit more flame cutting than they did from shooting the 22LR in it. Thanks Rick
Baldrick
Don't try it. The .223 burns a lot more powder than Rick's .17AH, and it will probably end in tears.
njc110381
There's no way I'd be using a SAK on a .223! I used one on my hornet for a while and the baffles got quite burnt, a .223 runs at twice the pressure of a .22WMR which is the biggest load a SAK would be proofed to. Picking bits of moderator out of your face with tweezers isn't the most fun thing to be doing, especially if you can't see what you're doing! Frenchieboy
I asked my DFR a very similar question. "Would it be Ok if I used my SAK (.22LR) moderator on a .222". The answer he gave me was a definite "NO, DO NOT TRY IT". I suslect the same advice would apply for a .223 or any other larger caliber that burns more powder per shot than an .22 LR.
