What questions.....

Just general stuff. What do you do for a job, why do you want to take up shooting. Put it this way, your FEO could lose his job if he's seen giving licences to people who could decide one day to run down the street in a daylight massacre.

My big tip, the one you should never ever forget and always remember:

Put the kettle on

:good:

I really wouldn't worry too much about it. You're legally entitled to own a shotgun even if you have no reason to, so long as you are sane and have no criminal record. When you get your firearms licence interview it gets a bit hotter, but still not that much to worry about.

Good luck

Hello squelchy,

Here's a good tip. the FO will come to your house to have a look at your gun cabinet to make sure it is bolted to the wall or the floor. If he asks to see your gun, make sure that you break it, show that the breech is empty and the offer it to him butt first. My FO said that so many people drag it out of the cabinet with the action closed and offer it barrel first. He said that if it was up to him he would ban them as being unsafe.

A mate of mine was shot in the head by an 'unloaded' 12 bore. He lent it to his mate who gave it back to him loaded. His mate's fault for giving him back a loaded gun, and his fault for accepting it without checking it. He's dead

All of the advice given here is good, but the best is to "Take a chill pill". So many people worry over nothing when they are due for the visit from their FEO. He is not going to ask you any questions that are designed to catch you out or tie you up in knots, just normal things like "What are you going to shoot", "Where ar you going to shoot", "Do you have any shooting experience" and things like that. The important thing is to be calm, polite, relaxed and, most importantly, Be Yourself!

If you have filled the application form in correctly and honestly you have nothing to worry about!

P.S. The idea about putting the kettle on is one of the best. I've had several visits from my FEO (For both my SGC and my FAC at a later date) and he loves the wifes home baking! Good luck mate!

Can you clarify this? Are you saying that you can buy a gun while waiting for your SGC?

You only have to get your guns out and show them if you're renewing your certificate. When I had my visit my air rifle was in the safe when he looked at it, he was pretty impressed by that.

Don't worry about the interview, it's pretty informal and just gets them out of the office for a chat really! :good:
