evilstoat
I got my baikal hushpower .410 out to do a maintainence clean and oil, as i was cleaning it with the boresnake i noticed some pitting all round the barrel just after the chamber finishes this is about half an inch long. the gun has never seen a drop of water, and is stored at room temp, out of the slip. I clean after each use, the problem is it's only just 7 months old and only used 6 times with a max of 20 carts through it, is this normal or not ? I was going to take back to the dealer tomorrow to complain thanks in advance for the input chaps Rod Edited August 2, 2009 by evilstoat

peter-peter
MM unusual for a baikal to pit anywhere even after 30 years are you sure its not lead deposit. put some bore cleaner into it let it stand a couple of hours and scrub with a cleaning brush. if that doesn't shift it take it back. very unusual. evilstoat
Thanks peter-peter for the reply, it is indeed possible for it to be lead deposit, but looks a little like pitting, will take it up there tomorrow to get the once over. I might well be wrong but i haven't got a rod for the copper brush i have, and the boresnake won't shift it. I haven't got any bore cleaner is there anything else that would be suitable? Anni
Maybe where the plastic off the cartridge has melted onto the barrel at high temperature If its inside the barrel that is .
evilstoat
whatever it was it's gone now...thanks for the replies, i gave it a good going over with copper brush, not sure what it was but it tool me ages to get the barrel like a mirror again in that spot are you sure its not lead deposit. yes you were right peter-peter thanks for the constructive advice Edited August 6, 2009 by Zapp Brannigan
clayman
With hard residue forget the bronze wire brush, the English market is still hung up on using "soft" brushes to not damage bores, but this is a historic thing from old soft metaled Damascus and early guns. Modern steels are hard and take a hard wire brush without ant possibility of damage. What you need is a spiral wire brush - all the continentals use 'em, and they shift the ****! Nel
I have just switched to Fiber carts & they leave a hell of a stubborn mess at the end of the chamber. I give the barrel a spray & a quick run to with the bronze brush then give it another spray & leave it for a good while before giving it another going over with the brush again. even then it might need a going over again....cant wait to get rid of the fiber carts!
