ShropshireJohn
The farm here has the Shropshire Union Canal running directly past the one side of the farm, when the canal was built they cut a large section of the land away making a 'valley' On one side of this valley there are LOTS of trees that pigeons like the flight into, Can I shoot next to this canal? I obviously wouldn't shoot the birds directly in the trees or above the canal but would do so as they crossed over into our land. A Quick google didn't bring up any answers Any ideas? George1990
As far as I knew you can't use lead shot on any land where there's water, even if the shot doesn't land in the water. Not sure about the other aspect. Might be wrong but someone'll be sure to correct me
Greenhunter
I think the lead shot rule only applies to shooting waterfowl not 100% A canal could be classed as a public highway and therefore the 50ft rule could apply as could spoiling another persons enjoyment etc. Personally, I'd be very cautious as its odds on someone would complain if any stray shot rained down on them as they floated by on their canal boat Why not ask your FEO! ShropshireJohn
Cheers chaps, I'll give the FEO a shout tommorow. I'm not sure on the Lead over water thing George as its British Waterways canal as such.. I fear you are right GH.. probability of many complaints from the 'select' bunch of boatys! Cranfield
I believe the birds must be over the land you have permission on, not flying over adjacent land. As its a canal (it might even have a canal path), its a right of way, so the 50ft rule probably applies.
