Allowed out for the first time

Well little Evie was 6 days old, and the misses was happy and off to her mothers for a couple of hours so i was allowed out.

I had noticed that they'd combined the wheat field nearest my house at last so called up the head gamekeeper (it's part of a large country estate) and arranged to shoot.

I can only shoot this one field on the estate and it's very awkward, a main road runs up one side of it, with a golf course the other.

But it's a pretty big field (about 90 acres), but i can only shoot one direction from a tree in the centre.

None the less, when i got there, there was plenty of activity.

I had 3 hours and 60 cartridges with me.

So setup under the oak tree with the magnet and some decoys. Sun was at my back and the wind quartering from my back so a little awkward.

Had one major rain shower in the middle which stopped play for 20mins.

Well it was fantastic, really enjoyed myself and eventually ran out of carts after 2.5 hours and not wanting to incur the wrath of the wife i packed up.

25 birds dropped, 23 picked which considering i was only shooting for just over 2 hours i'm chuffed with (if only i could have spent the day!)

popped back out for a very quick shoot today - 45 mins in the field

no hide, magnet or floaters, just a few decoys and me sitting still by the hedge.

10 shot, 8 picked plus 2 jackdaws (lovely double on those)
