Frenchieboy
I am sure I read somewhere recently that the Game licence had been abolished. Can anyone please confirm this as the Canada Goose Season opens on the 1st of September and I have a lot waiting to be shot on one of my permissions (Obvoiusly with the landowners permission). Country_est
Ok, 2 things here. 1 Goose = Wildfowl means no game Lice reqd. 2 Canda gesse are on the open license and can be taken at any time as are classed as vermin. Game licence has been abolished but dont have link to hand will find it later Trev
buchangun
But you still need a game licence north of the border.
Pinkfooty
That was three things Trev!! But all three are correct. (in England) In Scotland a game licence is still required to shoot game but geese are not game. In Scotland the Canada goose is not on a general licence so cannot be shot out of season. Frenchieboy
Thank you all for the information. Maybe I should have explained to save any confusion, I am asking about the situation in England (To be specific, Lancashire). I appredciate that the situation might be different in Northern Ireland and Scotland.
bigstevouk
Just a quick reminder that they need to be pests.... In the UK, the 'pest' birds covered by the DEFRA Open General Licence include feral pigeons, Canada geese (not in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland), carrion crows, herring gulls, house sparrows (not in England), jackdaws, magpies, rooks, starlings (not in England) and woodpigeons. To shoot them, you must be sure that they are definitely pests, and that there is no better way to stop them from remaining as pests in the future (for example, scaring them away or proofing). Possible reasons can include spreading disease and destroying your crops.
