joeshaw08
I've been looking for a moderated 410, and I think i've found what i'm looking for within my price range, £185. It is a Baikal IZH 410, with a 9 inch moderator. I'm aware that the fully moderated versions are near silent, how are these partially moderated guns when it comes to noise? I will be using it for lamping and there are a few houses around, so it has to be quiet. Does anybody use one of these or know how quiet they are? Cheers. Bleeh
To be honest, can you tell me anything a .410 can do with a lamp an air-rifle can't?. I had a hushy, and sold it pretty quickly; Having a 3 shot is another matter but I didn't find the one-shot that useful for nighttime work. The only real niche I found for hushys was back-garden shooting if noise is an issue.
mr salt
I have looked at the one with the full length mod. i must say for the money it was well made. i did not buy one as i have no use for one. From what i understand ,with the full length mod,is its loud until you have shot it a few times , then its silent - ish from a distance. i.e more noise than a airgun with mod,(pcp) but about the same as a springer when standing 20yrds away from it. Iam not sure ,but i think that was with hushpower cartridges. Really a tool for a job cheers scott

You can hit rabbit on the run with a .410...A bit tricky with an air rifle....I went out with a friend who's got a fully moderated model..we were shooting on and around a livery yard..didnt spook the horse's at all...thus,not spooking the rabbits..They would all be under ground if there was a stampede..just my opinion..air rifle would be fine if you know there going to squat... If you look careful I said ''At night''. You'd have a hard time hitting a rabbit at night when your holding both the .410 and lamp.
vole
I use a 12g Hushpower for rabbit at night and do not miss even though I am holding the lamp too. I admit I am not a very good shot either. It is single shot so I walk on another 100yards or so and bag another one. No need for multiple shots unless you have a major pest control problem you have to sort out. The fully moderated .410 really is quiet and you can easily shoot rabbits up to 30yards with confidence while holding a torch or lamp. You do have the meat damage you get with a shotgun but even with a 12g its not so bad especially if you shoot at the head end. Never used one with a short mod but I suppose it depends on how quiet you need to be. Bunnies are pretty stupid after all. My 12g does not seem to bother them if they are in a different part of the field.

I have one, it is very quiet in an open field, but it makes a bit of a bang if you are shooting around buildings, the subsonic cartridges are a pain to get so I tend to use normal 3inch or 2 inch for closer work, the fully moderated are very quiet ,but are heavier and more expensive ,the 9 inch is ideal , for most things , and it is easier to clean, , also compared to a normal shotgun they are a bit longer but you get used to it. and you can take it apart to fit in a cabinet, CHEERS FARM BOY

humperdingle
If you look careful I said ''At night''. You'd have a hard time hitting a rabbit at night when your holding both the .410 and lamp. You can also get barrel mountings for most of the popular lamps. Attach it underneath, and you've still got both hands free to operate the gun.
luckytrigger
I use my deben mini pro lamp mounted beneath the barrel of my fully moderated .410 baikel. I have drilled a hole through where the scope bracket attaches and just cable tye the lamp to the end of the barrel and tape the lead to the barrel (barrel is covered in bicycle inner tube). Doesnt look pretty but works perfectly and allows hands free lamping. Ive shot many rats and rabbits with this setup
