Topgunners
Hi All. Well , after all that thunder & lightning this week it finally got the pigeons on the move. We set up stall on some rape on Saturday and had a steady flow of 2's & 3's for the first 4 hours and then the "Dreaded Lull" and then the odd "nosey parker" till we packed up and counted 78 pigeons and 7 rooks. On saturday night got a phone call from one of my farmers who said his Barley had been "battered" by the rain and was now being " battered" by hundreds of rooks. I said we would be down first thing on Sunday. I arrived about 8 o clock and sat and watched about 200-300 flitting about and set up my hide and 4 plastic deeks in one hole in the barley immediately in front of me and 12 pigeon deeks in another hole to my right. By the time my colleague arrived at 9.30 I had shot 17 rooks and 6 pigeons and he said that as he pulled up behind my jeep there was a FOX CUB SUNBATHING by my front tyre. We set up another hide to the left of mine and shot steady till 12.00pm and had shot 60 by then, but then the rooks disappeared and the pigeons started to come in. It was hot with the sun directly in front of us most of the day but ended up with 111 shot; 27 rooks- 84 pigeons. just less than 150 cartridges Good day all round and the farmer was "WELL PLEASED" as he had heard the shooting all day. Anybody else been out this weekend.? Edited June 27, 2005 by Topgunners
stirky
Well done lads, glad you have been getting some sport, i am wanting to get out myself but its all quiet in my neck of the woods at the moment. The rape is turning to a golden colour but is still 4ft high and only wheat fields to shoot over, all i can do is keep watching

fert
went out sunday on the barley shot 31 pigeons lovely day out in the sun. the only trouble with shooting over laid barley/wheat is the amount of birds you lose which is a bit of a nuisance.and the flat bits were just over 40 yards out which is quite far out to get a good clean kill i must of shot 8 birds tail feathers out it just didnt klick always behind the *******.might have something to do with the amount of ale i had the night before and the 3 1/2 hours sleep. but made up for it with a few corkers i brought out the sky. Hubertus
Hi Topgunner, good ratio you shoot. Was yesterday near Frankfurt. There they have more pigeon compared with our area where we have nearly no pigeons at all. I saw many pigeons hitting the flat barley yesterday. The barley will be cut in round about one week over here! Best wishes, Hubertus

Best wishes, Hubertus hi hubertus, the ratio is very good ;reason being is my shooting partner used to shoot for england and his hit rate was 98.2% over a 1,000 clays at his peak. He's been shooting since he was 5 years of age non-stop EVERY weekend virtually. 40 + years . So he VERY rarely misses (maybe 5 or 6 max per day) sometimes NONE."!!!!!!!!!!! He is a joy to watch ( but SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, dion't tell him or he will only take the p*** out of me.)
ernyha
Glad you are honest enough to say that Dave as i don't know how i have resisted the temptation all day to spill the beans.
Topgunners
if you wanna spill the beans do it on one of my fields. More shooting then. Anyway , you know us , we don't have to lie or BULLS*** and I only missed about 7 or 8 all day . PAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
