deadeye
the browning double auto had 2 advantages or benefits that made it stand out. they were: 1-it had no magazine tube. the second shell was stored in the receiver just under the bolt. this made the gun very light in weight and it had quick handling characteristics. 2-if you shot your two shots it was extremely quick to load another shell in the chamber. it had an auto-load feature so if the birds were flying and you shot your two shells you simply insert another shell in the left side of the receiver in the loading port and the gun would automatically chamber that round for a quick third followup shot. they never sold in large numbers. i am somewhat familar with it because my uncle had one and used it extensively. i spent alot of time afield with him as a kid. i would help him train his dogs. the gun was light and handy to use. RossEM
I really want one of these...I wonder why it's never been reintroduced by Browning or copied by someone else?
casts_by_fly
probably because you can do anything with a 3 shot auto that you can do with that gun. I don't really see the point of having a 2-shot auto. Sure, the mag tube takes up a little weight, but you still have the wood and you'd need something to attach the wood to. Thanks Rick
Bleeh
I really want one of these...I wonder why it's never been reintroduced by Browning or copied by someone else? It has : The Berreta UG82 Xcel for people who want to be able to shoot and put make-up on at the same time. (not talking about women either). deadeye
as stated it never was very popular. as stated in its day it was relatively light in weight, it handled well and it had a clever auto - load feature. the old browning a-5 was a good bit more heavy. the double auto appealed mostly to men who hunting behind pointing and flushing dogs. its light weight was good for covering ground on foot.
