plinker
i was told recently that you can keep a muzzle loading shotgun and occasionally fire it without putting it on your sgc as long as it is not a modern repro.if however you want to fire it more often you must have it put on your sgc. if i were you i would check with plod. plinker
Sergeant
interesting, i was thinking of a repro, the original is likely to be a tad pricey for me!

blackthorn
if you are going to the C L A its worth asking plenty of them fellows there
Gunnerman
If its a modern repro it needs to go on a sgc but you can own a genuine antique shotgun or pistol and hang them on the wall with no licence required BUT if you want to shoot them they need to go on sgc and fac. Give it a go its not too expensive and good fun Regards Andrew
Snotty
Flint or percussion? <mutter> I really must stop buying these things. No licence required for muzzle loaders or obsolete calibre cartridge guns made pre-1939 if you hold them as curiosity or ornament, and that includes 10 bore If you want a shooter buy a repro with nicely polished bores, makes cleaning one heck of a lot easier. You're going to have it on your SGC anyway so why not. OTOH beautifully engraved Victorian lockwork attached to a pair of Liege tubes made from counter rotating damascene does attract some people to period pieces. A period gun with really good bores will cost you £1k minimum unless you can sniff out a bargain. Beware the new definition powder storage box, they are now looking for thick plywood boxes with internal partitions. I could ramble on all day, have a close up of my new baby

Snotty
Was thinking of flint lock, any type (rifle, pistol ect)really, but i only have a fac! Flinchlock rifle or pistol would be FAC, if you wanted to shoot it. Either chose something new and apply for a variation before you buy, or, buy something pre-1939 and apply for the variation before you shoot.
