Billy.
Yeah, go for a 22-250 or a 223. Perfectly good foxing rounds. The 22-250 is flatter shooting, but some people have said some counties aren't keen on giving those out on a first centrefire request. Billy.
Oh and if you tell us what county you're in, someone on here will tell you what to put in for. My reason for saying that is because all my rifles are listed under vermin (and deer for the .270) as Hertfordshire deem foxes as vermin, basically allowing me to shoot a rabbit with a .270, ...should one ever come running at me with a baseball bat whilst I'm out lamping. Billy.
i was thinking off a 223 my self read up about them ruffly how much land u need and thanks for the fast reply m8 any1 else have any theorys I've seen a .223 get cleared on land you would expect to be called a 'small' back garden. It's all about backstops and your ability to demonstrate that you are a safe and competent shot. When getting the land cleared, don't just let your FEO look round and make his mind up. You should show him where safe shots are, or any dangerous ones. It shows you know the land and are completely aware. He'll not be chuffed if he says "what's behind that hedge?" and you say "I dunno" only for him to say "Well last time I checked, it was a public footpath..." He'll like it if you can show you've got your head screwed on. Edited September 21, 2009 by harfordwmj

Billy.
wood this be under additional condistions and if so then no it does not say anything like that ps soz for the delay just reading the fac makiing 100% Yeah, there will be 3,4,5 or even 6 lines of info below your photo, saying about what you can shoot etc. I can sort of gauge what chances you've got by what's written there, as usually they'll hit you with loads of restrictions if they're worried you've not got loads of experience. If you've got 5 mins, do scribble them up. No need to be 100% accurate, as I know the basic outline of most of them. You're not breaking any laws writing up the conditions, so fear not! Basically you've hardly got any restrictions. Well, the only one you've got is that it's a closed ticket. So I would say you've got quite a good chance of getting another rifle. I've seen tickets that have 6 lines worth of conditions and restrictions, so I think your FEO must like you...! The best thing you can do is ring him up, have a chat and explain your situation. You'll find out a lot more by speaking to him, than sending in an application form and hoping for the best. EDIT: DO NOT tell him that you have shot any foxes. You may be in breach of your conditions if your licensing department deem that foxes have to be listed separately on your licence. al4x
if you've got the requirement just send in a variation for a .223 and see what happens, you've already got a firearms ticket so you're pretty well trusted. Wouldn't bother with a .22-250 as cost of factory ammo is that much more and you don't really want to get into re-loading
