smiiithy
Hi all, I've been out looking for sloes near me today. I know the ones in the foreground are sloes, but I've seen plenty of the red berries seen in the background of this picture. Are these also sloes or are they something different all together? Cheers, Mike Edited September 26, 2009 by smiiithy

sambu13
I picked some of those big ones of a stretch that looked like a grape vine, i was told they were bullaces.
smiiithy
Cheers to all who replied I was confused as I had seen a picture of these berries being used in another recipe, possibly jam. Not for me, just interested in the gin to be honest. I've spent many hours making blackberry jam, plum jam and plum chutney but my Dad chopped our plum tree down last year much to my disappointment
Nildes
There is a similar type of wild fruit grows in the Westcountry called a Bullace. Very similar to a Sloe and both make darn good gin.
Lucky-shot
look good to me now just add gin
smiiithy
Found 'em A few of the ones I picked yesterday have blemishes on the skin and others are a bit soft. Are these still any good or do they need to go in the bin? Cheers Mike
