Whilst loading 4 20ga development loads phone rings " can you get an sort the ********* Geese out asap " Geese had found some new sprouting Cereal crop's which i had already moved on but what was happening newly arrivals was having a feed then if put off moved on the puzzlingly thing resident Greylag was staying on the stubble.
Waiting in the half light i could hear Geese getting restless and did not have long to wait before the first lot came lovely ( No Decoys just flighting as this is my approach 99.9% of the time ) the first shot was taken with the trial load resulting in a very well hit dead Goose and another with my trusted load. The other three trial loads resulted in three more Geese so I'm very happy with them.
Having shot 7 Geese enough was enough so i locked the hidden gun in the truck and went with the lab's to walk any Geese Off that had made the Cereal crop whilst standing at my truck with binoculars i could hear Geese but could not see them finally at last looking like Teal so high was the Geese i watched over the next 3/4 hours 600-700 in varying size Skiens arrive from the North over the sea some gracefully lost height circling lower and lower to 15-20 yrd high then searched the area's out before gaining tremendous height and heading East along the coast other's wiffled twisted corkscrewed to lose height then followed the vapour trail left by the others.
Speaking to the Estate midday again another influx occurred early afternoon if only i had a camera of some sort to record such a spectacular Sight

Was at Lindisfarne last week, got 2 wigeon on the tide edge at flight time and walked back to the tank blocks with the gun in its case. Stood on a lovely bright quiet morning to see 40 pinks coming straight for me at not much more than head height.

Just stood and watched them go straight over me at about 20 yards up, every feather visible, never thought to load up or shoot. A super sight.

Maybe with my advancing years I'm going a bit Peter Scott?
