Zetter
Theoretically yes but depends on the force as with everything firearms related some have different views
Scully
Much depends on how your RFD wants to interpret it, but by law, yes you can. If you want one but your RFD wont sell you one, choose one who will.
foxshooter69
Had this on my first ticket, went to purchase a .22wmr at the midland game fair about 15 years ago, sales guy says I can't sell it you as you only have RF authority to purchase, if he did my mate who was with me at the time ripped him a new ****hole, needless to say he sold me the rifle. Only once did I then get refused ammo from a gun shop, so had to use a different gun shop with no problems at all, strangely enough both under South Wales control. Salop Matt
West Mercia were happy for me to have .22lr or .22WMR against my .22RF slot when I phoned and asked.

srspower
My RFD said they would sell me a .22wmr rifle and ammo based upon the .22RF description and I think that's the general interpretation after all would you expect not to be able to buy .22 short or .22long rimfire ammo? Water tight in court to be honest. I don't think most FEO's even understand what .22wmr even is though, mine certainly doesn't. It's ironic really as with my license I could have bought a .22wmr on day one but for the less powerful .17hmr my FEO wanted mentoring! Just shows how clueless they are.
