Mark on T8 Mod

Went to check something this evening in the cabinet and noticed this mark has appeared on my T8 mod:

T8Mark.jpg

I am guessing an oild spot or chemical spot of some sort, though it feels slightly crystaline.

Not tried to clean it yet, not sure what to use to be honest,

Any ideas of cause or way to clean it??

Have you had a muffler fitted over it .................i'm afraid it's acid corrosion from the inside mate and that mod is well sha**ed .

If you look hard enough at the picture in the link below you'll see similar corrosion around the hole even after I wiped the staining away with a oily rag

If the mod was new when purchased, could the corrosion not be residue salts from the blacking process which have not been adequatley cleaned off at the end of the process?

Highly unlikely

That discolouration is Identical to mine before failure and Miffy on here as a similar patch albeit in a different place on his T8 as well

if you ring Jacksons direct they will replace for it you straight away or should give you the money back- i know of a couple now that have blew through the side - i think they have been using cheap steel to make em.

You will have to have it taken off your ticket if your gonna replace with a totally different brand though.

Hmm, wording on the ticket that Sportsman wrote justs says Mod, no mention of make.

I will start with Sportsman as the mod was part of a combo deal, if no joy then straight back to Jacksons

I'd get one of these

I've not fitted one to my rifle yet, but will do when I can be ***** to go and see Andy (the guy who makes them). He's a top bloke, his service is great, and he knows what he's doing. The mod is also very reasonably priced and from looking at one (from a non professional point of view) seems very well made. If you search fullbore mods on the site they have a range of others too, but I've never handled them.

 that looks like a drop of used cleaning fluid has splashed on it, there's even a green oxidised copper colour to it, surely if it had corroded through there would be a reddish brown rust stain? try a sharp pick to see if the metal is weak or porous.

Hmm, to date not used any copper solvent on the rifle, just Parker Hale 009 on the bore, and the mod has always been removed when doing so.

Agree there is a blueish/greenish tinge to the marks, and as I said it feels crystaline.

Ok, just off the phone with Jackson Rifles, the makers of the T8.

They have described the mark as being due to a minor weld error. On closer examining the mark I can see 8 weld spots around the raised section of the mod, it is one of these that has a problem and the blueish/greenish mark indicates a poor weld.

They are very happy to replace the mod under warranty and will be doing so by next week.

They said the mod is fine to use at the moment.

The conversation then moved on to calibre, size of mod and make of ammo used.

The rifle is .243 though the mod is 30cal. I asked if there was any point in getting a .243 calibre mod and he said there is a small improvement in performance but asked what ammo I was using.

As soon as I said 55gr and 100gr Federal he said I would have to stick with the 30cal mod due to the specification of Federal 100gr bullets. The same applied Winchester ammo. No issue with lesser grain weights.

They recommend Norma ammo for 100gr stuff and when asked what rifle I am using said I should see an improvement in grouping.
