Cockerwatch?

Last summer, after only having springers all my life i decided to get a cocker. A friend's bitch was in pup and i said i'll have a bitch.

When the pups were born there was only 1 bitch and 2 dogs, as the guy was keeping a bitch i said no thanks to a dog (always been a preference for bitches). He said to contact the stud to see if he had a litter due or knew of one.

My friend had used one of Hedley Millington's dogs ( http://www.nancarrowcockers.com/ ) so i was on the phone to Mr Millington, as luck would have it he had 2x bitches 5 1/2 weeks old not sold. I was down the next day to take my pick.

I have to say that i was made very welcome and what a true gent Mr Millington is (and Kathy his Wife). The place was so clean and tidy. Well scrubbed kennels and well cared for dogs. Nancarrow is no puppy farm.

The pup houses and whelping areas are right outside the house and excellent design.

I had the choice of two chocolate roan (liver and White) bitches and as you can see from the litter every colour was thrown.

Well which one was to be coming home with me when it was 8 weeks old?

I chose the one on the left as you look at them. Larger head, more brains i thought. :good: HAHA

Nancarrow Ray of Hope. KC name, Izzy to everyone else.

So in a couple of weeks i would be back down to pick her up.

Here she is at 10 months.

Has been a joy to train. A natural retriever and her quartering is spot on. Dropping to flush and starting to drop to shot. Retrieved cold partridge and hen pheasant at the end of the season.

Her marking and handling out on blind retrieves is very good. She is never happier than when she is carrying something in her mouth, and always a sitting presentation of the retrieve. :(

  • 8 months later...
I just found these pics and cant see how to book mark.

Wanted to show my girls later

Better than posting "bump"

Tony

Nothing better than showing the womenfolks puppy pictures to convince them on a dog purchase, nothing short of emotional blackmail but v. effective :good:

Cockers are great, i'd have a team of them if I could. Currently training the one is sufficient involvement but i'll be adding another to the fleet next year - fantastic personalities, like little people!!
