Glitter Ball

I keep reading articles on the ' Glitter Ball '. Has anyone actually shot any crows, when using one? We suffer greatly from crows on laid crops, dillings etc. I notice they can be bought on ebay for a small amount. If they work, does anyone have any photos?.

I bought one from deako a few weeks back found it has to be a bright sunny day for it to be effective the ones ive shot mainly useing it are jackdaws.

Quote from another forum :no::)

Well had it 2 weeks now and used it 3 times first time did not seem to make any difference then realised what the problem was it was overcast not a bit of sun in sight.

Then yesterday was the first day with nice bright sunshine so went shooting with my mate scaffy on some of his permission.

Got set up with the decoys out to the left of the hide as the birds were coming from that side, then set the disco ball up out on the right of the hide we could not believe the difference the sun made,

Nice flashes of light from the ball just like the disco dancing nights years ago.

We sat and watched the blackones flying straight over the decoys to the ball and flying round it before we shot them we even put a magnet out with the decoys to see if that would make a difference they still came in to the flashing ball.

We shot from 11.00am till 3.oopm as we were going to a BBQ we ended up with over 60 blackones mostly jackdaws,

Used it again today on one of my farms just a few decoys and the ball and shot about 20 all crows in 3 hours then we went and stood in the stackyard of the farm and shot 40 ferals as they were coming in to land on the farm buildings we shot over 30 ferals on the same farm last week.

DEAKO i must admit i wasnt sure about the glitter ball but im convinced its great when its sunny (will it work with pigeons as well or just crows)

  • 1 month later...

Sadly, Noddy forgot to mention in his letter to SS that we are currently awaiting the outcome of legal advice on the use of the glitter ball for corvids...despite me CLEARLY explaining that to him...the twonk. :good: :yp:

The KEY point being that the glitter ball is NOT designed as a dazzling device, its used to arouse the natural curiosity of corvids, not to 'blind' the damn things. :(

So Noddy, we have withdrawn the glitter ball from sale (2 months ago) pending that advice, and I would advice people not to use them until clarification is known...whenever that may be. :/

Okay for ferals though, just don't shoot any crows that come into the pattern.
