velveteens Posted December 4, 2005 Report Share Posted December 4, 2005 (edited) The ferreter is spot on. Trapman is probably the best and cheapest. The cage trap is ideal for grey sqirrels. Don,t forget Mink are more akin to a badger for ferocity.You will need a heavy stone or better still peg the trap fore & aft with a bent piece of heavy fencewire about 10" long and bent into a "U" shape.Make sure it is pushed right down level with the surface. new to the flock Posted December 4, 2005 Report Share Posted December 4, 2005 Here are a couple of exceprts from other posts. place your trap about 1/2 way into the tunnel and place your bait behind that. A bit of fresh rabbit or fish works well. You can also build what is know as a dryland blind set. find an area that is well used build your tunnel uver the trail leaving it open at both place your trap in the middle of the tunnel. I will scan some info for you and post it in the pic section. The traps in the tunnels will be victor 1 or 1 1/2 long springs set for drowning, just replace these with a fen trap. The dry land sets are down with conibear 110 and 120 traps. The 110 and the 116 conibear were cleared for use on mink, stouts, (116) rabbit, and weasels in 1995 for the UK.
