  3. Recieved this today by email. I really hope that these are truly his words. Fantastic and refreshing and I figured a lot of you on this site might appreciate it, even the Taffies, the Sasnachs, the Jocks and the Mickeys. Prime Minister John Howard - Australia Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.' 'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom' 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!' 'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.' 'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.' 'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage y ou take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.' 'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.' Mr Brown? Go on Sir, be a soldier. Learn from this man.
  4. Well I can tell you what I buy, and I assume it is legal. You can buy snares - about 1.50 a pop for fox. They are not self locking (free running) and they have a stop on them - basically preventing say the hoof of a deer getting caught up. I have used them to some success. I managed to catch a badger by mistake. Initially I was really worried since, well we all know.......... After a bit of digging and snipping the snare close to the animal, it gave a wriggle, and bounded off. Clearly the non-locking portion works. It could not get away, so built itself a little shelter until I came along and disturbed it. As far as I could see - no damage to the animal at all. Where to get them from..... well any dealer will have them. Look up ukgundealer and search where is convenient for you.
  5. 17 HMR 22 LR - not finding much use for this anymore - sitting crows I guess 22-250 6.5X55 12 gauge semi auto 12 gauge o/u for pretending to be a gentleman
  6. The answer is yes - they do exist. I have some interesting stories - and they are fact. First - Sitting at home watching TV with the lights off. See something black move from in front of my window in the garden. Too knackered to get off my *** - think nothing of it. Next day - neighbour tells me there has been some sightings in an area about 6 miles north of where we stay. Still don't make the connection. That evening - driving back home and here is this thing - blacker than black moving at the speed of light through a field. Managed to back up the car to see it dive into a bush - then no sign. Amazing. So, after a bit of thought checked the garden - sure enough, a track in and a track out and an area well bedded down (in the weeds to my shame) where it was lying. No sign of the droppings - else I would've taken them to a vet. ........................ That's the first one............ Next day I was into the office and chating with a guy who hunts. He - no names here of course - saw a fox just outside of his shooting rights land and shot it. Left it there so as not to get into trouble. Kindly asked his wife to go during the day and pick it up while the farmer was away. She did, and was only able to find skin bones and kidneys. They went to the vet with the carcass and the explanation was - must have been a cat - they don't eat the kidneys. ........................ And now for the clincher ............ The game keeper I go stalking with saw a big cat chasing a fox through the forest So, if there are fewer foxes out there where you live - look out for a big black cat. They are leopard type creatures. Aside from those three stories, a friend of mine has seen one also - says the one he saw looked sick - mangey, grey, mottled. The neighbours friends had a horse killed - frontal attack - as you see lions do with their prey. It all adds up. Hard to believe my own eyes still. Consider too, that if you head to the jungle and look for them, where you KNOW they live. They are still so elusive.
  7. I have the z6i in 2-12X50. Great scope. Love the reticle. Looked through at both the standard cross-hairs which are nice and fine and don't take up too much of the view. The TDS is not calibrated for anything - you really need to shoot out far and back calibrate what distances the bars correspond to. Pain in the butt and I don't think particularly practicle. For a flat shooting calibre such as the 22-250 I think a standard reticle is the business - acquire target and go for it. As far as the magnification is concerned - people will shoot with what they have - but I would want at least 16 on the top end. I'd gor for a 4-16 or 6-18. Important to have a reasonably open lower end. As for rabbits. Get yourself a 17HMR with 6-24 scope. That is an incredible tool. The bunnies don't know the sound. They hear a 10/22 semi auto they run. They hear that - they are simply surprised - will wait around a little - so you can shot one or two more before they scarper.
  8. It is not necessary to "mess around" with a variable scope. When you're stalking and can't get any closer than say 180 yards due to open ground or whatever, it is great to lie there - scope up - paralax adjust - then shoot. At 180 yards the deer aren't going anywhere in a hurry. If you are in thick cover and come across an animal close up with a fixed 8 mag - all you will see ifs fur. Paralax really only kicks in at higher magnification - if you need it - then you will have time to adjust paralax too.
  9. I have the Sauer 202 Synthetic in 6.5 X 55. It is a fantastic rifle - quick to shoulder - crisp trigger - very accurate. I fancied the Sako but did not care for the synthetic stock - personal preference. This business about have a deer rifle and a "dedicated" fox rifle is nonsense for the two calibres in mention. They both have similar ballistics - you should know a gun and a calibre. Choose a calibre for deer - it will kill a fox. If you really need to reach out there for a long shot on Charlie, you should consider a 22-250 or a magnum 223 of sorts. There are lots of fashionable calibres. Bottom line - know a calibre - know your gun - know the drop.
  10. I have a bushnell elite 4200 4 X 16 X 50 on my 22-250. It is magic. I spent some inheretance money on the new Swarovski Z6i 2-12X50. While there is a slight difference, I could now not justify the additional lolly. It is difficult to get US sites to send to the UK. There may be a few out there - good luck hunting for them. The wife goes there now and again and I have her pick up a scope when she's across. You could consider a 6-24, but this is for prone shooting and I like to have a little more field of vision - 4 is about right as a low end magnification. 16 will be enough out to 222 range.
  11. Difficult to fault the Reflex T8 Suppressor. They come in at 200 quid - no bargains out there - that's it.
  12. I made a variation from the 270 to the 6.5. The 6.5 is a lovely versatile round, kicks less than the 270 and is perfectly adequate for reds. I would suggest you use 140 grains. I had a bad experience with Norma 120gr ballistic tips and have switched to 140gr federal. They go where the cross-hairs are! It is a great round for roe deer - good clean kills and limited meat damage. I am a believer that if you want to eat what you shoot - you should not go for the magnum, or quicker velocity bullets. The ballistics are just about ideal. If you want to use it longer range for foxes then there are some lighter bullets becoming available.
