Shotguns and airguns, the outdoors, walking and cycling. Oh and being a know-it-all teenager. :)
  1. What do you mean 'easy to fool people'? If anyone on this forum could even begin to think that was anything but a large domestic cat then they need their eyes checked as well as their brain. As it stands no-one who replied to this thread said it was anything other than a big pussycat, so no offence but your 'point' is null and void
  2. There were loads of this type of gun made in Belgium and other places (Spain is one, where my mates dads gun was made, El Chimbo is the make) back in the day, not rare by the usual definition but not as common these days. I take it that it is the side lever type of opening? Not meaning to put you down mind, my mates dad has one and I love it, I am looking around for one myself. A really fun little gun to have in the cabinet methinks.
  3. Flash, one of those biathlon Anschutz's you describe is owned by a local keeper I know. He bought it because he wanted a gun he could carry on his back when driving the quad and not have it slide around when ever he went round a corner. The stiff leather rucksack-esque straps really are usefull and when you learn the method for mounting and dismounting it, it is very quick to get on aim from being on your back. By the way, did they sell ammo there as you asked? Edit: And could you post a brief synopsis of rifles available to hire there when you come back tomorrow?

    Lost

    They're all dead.
  5. Trust me, no B2 in existance is powerful enough to humanely hunt with. The recoil is caused by poor tollerances in manufacture and friction during the firing cycle. Saying that I'm not slating you or the gun, I started off with and SMK laserhawk and it was one of the funnest garden guns I've ever used.
  6. Is that in Sportsmans in Paignton, it looks very similar. They tend to sell more tactical type rifles than most gunshops so I made the mental link.
  7. Correction, NEVER take a body shot on any quarry with an airgun. If a clear headshot isn't available then you shouldn't take the shot, just leave it for another day or try and reposition yourself so that you can take a headshot. I'm not aiming this as a verbal attack on you, more just a general message to everyone.
  8. Check the baffles in the silencer with a torch (obviously check it is unloaded first, or remove from the gun to inspect), you may find that the pellets are clipping the edges of the baffles as they go through.
  9. Sounds Chinese made, steer well clear of it. You can pick up much better than that for an extra 25 notes new, or secondhand at the same price. Buy 'owt ****** made and you'll regret it, trust me they're terrible, even the 'upmarket' chinese guns are a crappy false economy. You get far better value and quality for your money when you buy a decent British made springer.
  10. When learning to shoot with a springer you must: 1. Hold it with the same pressure every shot. 2. Not so much hold it, but let it rest in your hands. 3. Practise. Lots. Sorry if the first two points contradict each other slightly but you have to hold it very gently and with the same pressure every shot. Another thing you may not have been taught is correct trigger technique, do as Axe says when pulling the trigger, but you also have to have the pad of your finger (where your fingerprint is) on the trigger blade and not pull it with the first joint of the finger as new shooters often do. Welcome to the fun process of learning to shoot, and about shooting in general. You're lucky that you have this forum to ask questions on (and do so, that's what it's here for), but I fully recommend that you enquire about joining a club. No amount of internet tuition can make up for what a someone can teach you in person. As a little sidenote might I add that I think the Webley Sport is made as a youth/learner rifle and as such probably won't be powerfull enough to hunt with. It's perfect for what you're doing now, but many new shooters are all to keen to rush off and hunt something without consideration for their prey. Hope you don't take me the wrong way their, just covering a question you'd probably ask in the future. It's great to see you taking a mature stance on learning, carry on asking as many questions as you like, the more questions you ask then the quicker you will advance in terms of shooting knowledge and skill.
  11. Why not? Assuming these are seized firearms then they have put a fair ammount of effort into displaying them, why not keep a few duds just to make the HMG look the part? After all it's not the sorta thing they find on a regular basis when patting down crims. Edit to point out something really obvious: The fact is the bullets are there, they're not going to keep live ones in it are they now?
  12. The rounds in that HMG appear to have had the primers removed, one assumes that the powder has been removed as well.
  13. I dunno lads, a ferret's got a pretty unique intimidation factor. If I owed someone money and they threatened to apply a ferret to my nadger, I'd pay up pretty sharpish.
  14. Nope, it's so the scope can clear the rear sights.
