  1. CLICK HEREHe is a nice chap when you get on his good side and prove himself, full story here
  2. White or light coloured rabbits are a genetic defect, rabbits rely on the brown colour they are for camo, they also rely on this brown colour to contrast with the white flash of fur under their tales to warn of danger. If your a white or light colored rabbit you don`t really stand much chance of passing on your genetic material.
  3. Went round to see my biggest land owner tonite, i have permission to use a shotgun on his land covering about 1400 acres, phoned him to see if he would give me permission to use a rifle on it as i have my FEO coming round tomorrow to sort out my shooting club variations, He asked if i was the guy that drove the white ford ranger and said yes that was me, slightly worried he knew my vehicle, went round and he asked what i was looking for said i wondered if he would give me permission to use a rifle on some of his land, he then asked if i had got many pigeons and were many on his land, I said i had seen a few but since i had been going out they are well under control, he then said yes he had noticed as the rape is looking alot bigger and finally taking and he had been driving around and spotted my vehicle alot. He proceeded to fill out my form and gave me a map, turns out the map shows cleared rifle land for .17mr, 0.22lr and .223 covering 1200 hectares, which i worked out to be 3000 ish acres or 5 square miles said i am free to use rifle and shotgun. Also said that he has another 2000 acres he has permission to farm and that if i wanted anymore land all i have to do is ask and he will get me special permisson. he shook my hand thanked me for what i have done and said people like me are worth their weight in gold. very chuffed.
  4. i just got back from getting 5 square miles of land passed to shoot rifles on, with more available if i want it.
  5. It doesn`t hurt to use snap caps, if you dryfire the gun without it will damage your firing pin mechanism, leaving your gun in ready to fire state puts strain on the firing mechanism. To use snap caps simply insert into chambers close gun then fire then store.
  6. Funny enough that is the weekend we were thinking of, there are 2 definates and me at the moment.
  7. Approach the BASC or NRA both would give guidance, your biggest obstacle is finding land due to the fact your going to need planning permission etc and local residents hate shooting clubs.
  8. Section 1 rifles yes require permission slips, if your lucky the land is already in the register and passed. section 1 shotguns vary, some forces will just issue with you giving a good reason like bad pigeon problem, others will ask for a letter from the landowner asking them to state bad pigeon problem, others will tell you to get lost unless you want to take up practical shotgunning, section 1 shotguns don`t require land to be checked.
  9. I`m out that way Tomorrow and Tuesday, got next week as annual leave Decoying pretty well, floaters and magnet are essential.
  10. My Ruger mini 14 will happily chamber .223 & 5.56 and spit them all day long, however 5.56 are a fire and forget round in that you can reload maybe once then they are useless so if i`m out on the 100m range or shooting vermin then 5.56 nato rounds are fine, if i`m going out further than home load .223 are the way to go.
  11. Co-terminous firearm/shotgun renewal £50 Co-terminous firearm/shotgun grant £60
  12. Hmmm i think you may have permission to shoot on the same land i do. Do you shoot on a field that borders Barfrestone Road?
  13. I am looking for a scope for a .22lr that can be used in the daytime and the night, Rabbits around here are geting lamp shy so i`m looking to upgrade to night vision but also want to leave the scope mounted for day shooting too as we sometimes spend the night out shooting untill 2-3am then setup camp until daybreak, break camp then hit them again at first light, would be nice to have just the one scope that can be left on the whole time without zeroing all the time when i change it. Don`t want hyper expensive just something that will do the job without spending loads.
  14. A chap called Colin lives in Dover he is a main dealer for RC, actually i think RC is the only make he sells.
  15. As we all know .17hmr barrels are prone to fouling very quickly turning a nice smooth night/day out into a stop start operation due to rodding your barrel every 20 or so rounds. This being the case does anyone know of a .17hmr rifle that can go longer between cleans before the grouping starts to go? also what do people use to clean their barrels in the field?
  16. LOL glad someone reminded me, i`m off there too, already got my tickets and forgot about it. How about April 12th??
  17. I buy my RC cartridges down here in Dover, didn`t mention it as i think Dover cold be abit far for you.
  18. For those that want to come we can meet at somewhere that is easy to find, Macdonalds takeaway on the A2 is an easy place, right next to a massive roundabout, can`t miss it plus you can route plan to the restaurant. The site sells eley firsts at £4 a box last time i checked but could be abit more now, or i have Gamebore Kent Velocity 28 7.5`s which people can buy at £14 a hundred which is what i pay, not a bad cartridge check the reviews on this forum.
  19. If you are clay shooting i have a clay shooting vest which has whats called a reacta pad in it (Berretta), gell filled thingy works very well when i`m forced to use over under, if you are live quarry shooting you can buy the same recoil pad but to fit on the butt of your gun. that or buy and escort semi for £295 and they have a shock absorber built into the butt, plus come with spacers etc for fit.
  20. Quite agree, if i have a couple of hours spare between finishing work and collecting my daughter i find myself grabbing my .17hmr or .22lr and use that rather than having to worry about getting close with a shotgun, kind of lazy in some ways but i pretty much guarantee something for my troubles, plus it saves spooking the pigeons too much and making them gun shy for decoying days later, unlike some poeple on my permission who spend the day driving around firing shotguns left right and centre spoiling it for other serious shooters. Rant over.
  21. Thought i was correct, thanks Baldrick for comfirming my info.
