    Tree rats

    Pics should be there now!
  2. Here's the result of a few hours shooting one evening last week. We were out with the ferret but the rabbits didn't really make much of an appearance (we only got one) so we turned our attention to a bit of drey poking - using the 12 bores to 'poke' the dreys! We got 6 altogether, one went to the ferret, the other 5 are in the freezer, waiting to go into the sausage making machine. Need a few more really, the meat off 5 squirrels won't make very many sausages!
  3. I made a batch of rabbit and pork sausages last weekend, I used 3lb of Pork belly and the meat from 3 medium sized rabbits, 2 cups of rusk and 2 cups of water, plus some seasoning. You don't have to use rusk, but it helps retain some of the fat during cooking and stops the sausage from drying out. I'm going out after some squirrels this weekend, I fancy trying squirrel and roast chestnut sausages. I'm going to need a fair few squirrels though!! You'll enjoy trying out different recipes. Like a lot of things in life, a process of trial and error will eventually lead to perfection. I'm a long way off yet, but getting there slowly! With regards to the question about how much fat to include, I asked my local butcher - he knows a thing or two about making sausages as he has won loads of awards. He's the butcher that was on that 'Kill it, cook it, eat it' program that has been on BBC3 this week. His advice for a typical sausage mix is to use 60% pork belly and 40% pork shoulder. If you're wanting to add any wild meat, he recommended 70% pork belly and 30% wild meat. Hope this helps

    .410 Boresnake

Yeah, I've since noticed that someone is selling them on that popular auction site for £12, so I can't really offer a worthwhile saving. Nevermind, was just trying to save myself a few quid and help out others on here.

    .410 Boresnake

I'm in contact with a Boresnake supplier from the US, and can get pretty much any size of Boresnake at much better prices than they sell for here in the UK. Including shipping, they work out at about £12 each. I'm just about to put an order in for some in .410 calibre, if anyone would like one please drop me a PM. Obviously I'll have to add a bit extra on to cover costs of posting them onto you, but this will only be about £2 If you need any other size please let me know and I'll see if I can get them
  7. Thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest in this gun - between this forum and AirgunBBS I've had about 25 PM's/emails, and countless phone calls, and have got very confused over who I've spoken to! The gun is now provisionally sold - apologies to anyone who is dissapointed as a result of the confusion. If the sale falls through, I'll be in touch with the next person in line, as discussed in phone calls/emails/PM's. Cheers Mark
  8. I have for sale a 3 shot pump action .410, made by Savage Arms. It has been fitted with a moderator and is very quiet, especially with 2 inch or subsonic cartridges. It will take 2, 2.5 or 3 inch cartridges, and cycles smoothly. I bought it from Darren M off this forum last year, and am only selling it because I need the space in my cabinet for a semi-auto I have ordered, and this is the gun I use least - I've only put 2 boxes of cartridges through it since I bought it. It's in good condition overall, there's a few marks on the stock but nothing major. Please PM or email me if you would like any photo's and I'll send some through. I want £180 for it (no silly offers please!) and will throw in some cartidges - not sure how many I've got, I'll have to check. Face to face preferred, but will post to your local RFD at cost. Usual SGC rules apply - certificate holders only please. Any questions, please ask
  9. I've got a Hilux pickup on a 1999 V plate, and I can't fault it. Took it for an MOT yesterday and it only failed on a numberplate bulb. It's done 102k miles and has never let me down. I've had the back full to the brim with wet clay and it still drove nicely - I've even pulled a couple of 40 foot dead sycamore trees down with using a rope! It's a bit thirsty though, that's the only downside - 25mpg at best.
  10. My good lady wife suggested 'pork-pie', because "he's small, brown, with a lovely inside"...??!!
  11. Darren, I bought the pump action .410 off you earlier this year, would you be interested in buying it back?

    dodgy e-mails

I had a similar email when I was selling a car a few months ago - it's quite common apparently. There's a website all about internet scams here: http://www.419eater.com/ Seems that some people are enjoying getting their own back on these scammers - they're calling it a 'sport'...!
  13. I had exactly the same problem with my TX200HC when I bought it from new. It almost seemed as though something kept getting jammed, but as I was new to the TX I assumed it was me that was inexperienced in cocking it. Anyhow, after a few minutes of trying all sorts of combinations of pressing the anti-bear trap and trigger (whilst keeping hold of the cocking lever of course!) it eventually freed up, and has been fine ever since. To this day I've no idea what caused it - it's never happened again.
  14. Yeah, I've got one in .22 - they're a very nice gun indeed. Quite heavy, but I find that helps keep the recoil under check. They're a very well-regarded gun - you won't be disappointed.
  15. No worries. Thanks anyway.
  16. Thanks Fenn. Bigtone - Are you still Ok to meet up somewhere? (I'll cover your fuel costs) If so, Woodall services on the M1 (between junctions 30 and 31) looks to be about halfway between us. I'll drop you a PM with my phone number so we can discuss.
  17. I'm in Glossop, North West Derbyshire. If Fenn doesn't want it, then we'll sort something out regarding collection - thanks.
  18. Would you be able to post this to me? (obviously I'll pay the postage costs) If so, then I'll have it, if it's still available.
  19. Briliant job there mate - very impressive. With regards to cutting the stainless with an angle grinder, if you ever need to do a similar job again, try using one of the cutting discs as featured in this auction: <GRINDING DISCS> I've used them on a few projects and they are far better than the standard cutting discs - they cut much faster and cause far less heat build up. I wouldn't necessarily suggest you buy them off this particular guy, as I got them significantly cheaper from another seller a while ago. You can also get them from Screwfix and MachineMart and places like that. Hope this helps.
  20. Thanks - sounds good. Likewise, if you fancy a day out on my shoot give me a shout.
  21. I'm in Glossop, right up in North West Derbyshire, so am pretty far away from you. Drop me a PM if you fancy trying lamping from the back of the pick-up sometime?
  22. Whereabouts in Derbyshire are you? I've got a pick-up and wouldn't mind joining you for a lamping session sometime and being the designated driver!
  23. Jay, I'd be interested - I'm in Glossop, Derbyshire which is not too far away from you. I've got a local shoot (40 acre woodland) on which I'd be more than happy to invite you over to shoot in return?
  24. I've sent a letter off today asking them to contact me so I can find out more details. The advert stated it was an informal shoot so I'm hoping it's fairly easy going with regards to access times, etc. Will let you know. As for the .410, it's got it's first outing lined up shortly. A local farm has got problems with feral pigeons in and around the stables and yard, and they've asked me to sort them out. The little .410 should be ideal for that job!
