  1. hi guys, i run a small shoot over about 400 aceas in Anglesea, and occassionally require a couple of beaters with dogs to help us flush Pheasants and retrieve them. i am asking if anyone would like to help us out a couple of times throughout the season, we're a small group usually consisting of 4 guns, we have fun but are safe, we usually start out about 8am and finish round 1pm (ish). dogs do not need to be fully trained, but able to retrieve is an advantage, theres lots of cover for the dogs to work and a large duck pond. our usual bags are about 20-30 birds, and a share of these will be offered to the beaters. we could require some assistance this Saturday and also next saturday, then a couple of times throughout November and December. if your interested PM me with your number and i'll talk you through the full details, Thanks for reading guys

  4. i appreciate that almost everyone on PW is looking for land to shoot on. we are a syndicate of 4 friends looking for land to shoot pheasants and the likes, all members are fully insured via BASC and have current SG certs, we are all professionals running our own businesses, we are willing to pay and put down our own birds or just shoot birds that are on your land. ideally land of 300+ acres but something a little smaller may be considered. we currently have land in Angelsea but that takes 2hours + to get to from Manchester. land situated in North Wales or within an hours drive of Manchester. Thanks for looking, please PM me if you have any land available. Dean

  10. you don't live far from me! can i come!!! although i prefer rough shooting because my Sprnger isn't patient enough to sit in a hide yet lol! and as long as youur shooting them for crop protection, health and safety or to prevent damage to livestock or their feed then its legal! check out www.basc.org.uk if ya not sure pal

  13. Me and my dog got invited to Wales today to do some rough pigeon shooting but the person who invited us has just rang me and cancelled! anyone got any pigeons they need shooting today, Charlie is gutted he's not going today, so i'm trying to find somewhere to take him, in the Lancs/Manchester/north wales areas! PM me if you have!
  14. if you are shooting pigeons to "protect against crop damage" then nothing says on the general license that they have to be damaging the crops then and there! so you are shooting them to protect future crops on that piece of land! in law you also may be asked to prove that other methods have been unsuccessful, eg scarecrow, hence why your shooting them! take a look at http://www.basc.org.uk for more info
  15. was gonna suggest ebay but alex beat me to it! good plan Chris! if all else fails, try looking for www.surefire.com i use one off their torches for lamping and also close contact CP work abroad, they do a very wide range of brackets and holder for rifles, shotguns and handguns. hope this helps
  16. defo up for it for a weekend pal if the offer comes my way!
  17. i have attached an exploded view of the Hatsan Escort Magnum, all i can say is if someone rates this then they obviuosly haven't stripped it yet to throughly clean it, and if they have, they haven't stripped a well made gun! The Escort is made of cheap die cast metals and plastics, the biggest fault is the securing clip that keeps the rail attached to the chamber, it is prone to snapping, my mate who also has an escort only using 28g No4 in his (he's not a serious shooter) and has had no real problems, i however use mine for Duck and Goose so a bigger heavier cartridge is the order of the day, the cheap metals used in the Escort can not cope under pressure. I have had to replace the clip twice so far, and have probably not fired more than about 50 shots through it! Edgar Brothers will confirm all this! the orange arrows in the picture shows the weakest parts. tallpauljcb1 how can you compare the escort to the Lanber? the Lanber is far better made and if its the sporting or sporting delux it has a solid stock and is steel shot proof, so where you can't take your Escort on "proper" shoots you can take you Lanber and it will do exactly what your escort will do, only better! Maybe some people just want to feel like Rambo running around with a semi!!!
  18. i've been training my 3rd Gundog now for about 6 months and he still ****s up occassionally, your biggest problem is the use of treats, your ess, like mine, should come back because he wants to, try quartering with him, criss crossing your movements with his, and using your whistle (3 pips) and keep recalling him and sitting him (1 pip) everytime he does this right make a fuss out of him, stroke him and tell him he's a good boy, concrentrate on 1 thing at a time, then move on. try the use of a rope for recall training, attach the rope like you would a slip lead and let him go off to the full extent of it then 3 pips on the whistle and call his name softly, if he doesn't come back yank the rope very hard to pull him off balance and call him again, he will come then because he won't like being pulled, keep doing this untill sooner or later he recalls every time.
  19. don't bother mate, they're cr&p! i have one that i have used only about 3 times, don't rate it at all. make me an offer for mine!!!
  20. i'm currently in the process of training my Springer Spaniel, Charlie. on Saturday i bought him the Dummy Launcher, has throwing the canvas one i could only really reach about 40 yrds. with the Launcher i can get the dummy out to about 90yds! i was using this today to work on his retrievial, especially drop to shot and retrieving whilst quartering, working him in and out of bushes and long grass. Charlie isn't gun shy, and doesn't matter how close he is when you fire the launcher, he just scouts the air for the dummy then he's gone and brought it back 12 out of 15 times, the other 3 times he couldn't find it, that was probably down to where i shot it! does anyone else use one of these launcher? any tips?
  21. What a nice guy, top gesture mate
