  1. Its funny I was thinking about this topic just the other day, particularly how antiquated our system seems. Certainly Ive never seen the wisdom in using referees of suitable standing to determine good character. Perhaps its just sour grapes, as a 21 year old working class lad racking my brains whos going to do mine. Although saying that, I did once know a bloke whod worked for the civil service who said the only person hed ever refused was well known locally for dressing up in combats and playing army in the woods...maybe it would be more sensible to have a similar system to many other European countries which licence firearms much like vehicles.
  2. Doesn’t it? Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? As in guilty of the actual crime in question...
  3. He received two stab wounds, and as far as I’m aware both came from the same knife, certain I’ve never seen it said otherwise....
  4. The way I understand it a gang of youths attacked this black lad in a racist incident and one of them stabbed him. 18 years later two blokes get convicted of murder based on DNA evidence putting them on the scene. Now I don’t know if I’m missing something here but; One person actually did the stabbing, so how can two of them be convicted for murder? Also the DNA puts them at the scene, but that doesn’t prove either of them actually stabbed him, could have been one of the other three.
  5. Went over Monday, as I said my mate had the original box, which had a picture of the gun on it, but he also had a blue plastic cover, 2 busses and a train ride later I was home, no trouble at all.
  6. Thanks for all the replies, as it happens my mates got the original box so reckon I’ll just leave it in there. Can always wrap that in a bin bag if it’s got any markings, then no one will any the wiser.
  7. I’ve wanted another air rifle for a while and as luck would have it a mates looking to sell one. The only trouble is he lives in Huddersfield and I’ve no transport. So to get it home means travelling on two busses and a train. From what I can gather that would be all legal and above board so long as the guns unloaded and in a gun slip. Anything else I should know?
  8. Totally agree with what other have said, whenever I’ve seen pictures in the media of these amnesties the tables have been full of air rifles and pistols. Occasionally you see the odd Webley revolver which has probably been sat in a draw for the past 50 years.
  9. I might be wrong but I think it stems from the idea that if they say.... ‘look at me I’m disabled and I’m fishing’ You’re supposed to think 'Oh wow thats great, good for you mate'.........
  10. I sowed mine about 2 weeks ago but not had any through yet, but hopefully I’ll be seeing shoots in a few days. I haven’t over wintered any chillies but I’ve got a mini red pepper plant that permanently lives in the house. That’s already flowered and has some little peppers on it.
  11. Yeah, but the problem with that is that most of the little sh*ts who cause the problems with air guns are more legally savvy than you or I. You can try and scare them all you want, but it all just ammounts to empty threats. They know full well that for the most part the truth is; SCREW UP WITH AN AIR GUN AND GET A SLAP ON THE WRIST
  12. I don't really feel like jumping into the whole debate, but just thought I'd point out that this idea that ‘’the illegal position of any firearm = a minimum 5 year sentence’’ is incorrect. That is only the case if someone is in position of a section 5 weapon http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_manual/section_5_firearms_act/ For a section 1 firearm however there is no minimum sentence ( simple position carries a maximum 5 years). http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_manual/section_1_firearms_act/
  13. I think your spot on mate, the idea of burglar nicking guns to use or sell on to other criminals is laughable. ..... The going rate for a sawn off shotgun is apparently about £150-£200. You’re not going to find many burglars prepared to do a 5 year stint for that When they could get the same for your laptop and iPod, and only do at most, a few months if they get caught.
  14. Bloody hell 65,000.... :o There were only 57,000 people who handguns on a section 1 ticket in 1997.
  15. I always found it fascinating, this image that people have constructed of ‘the poacher’. How they’ve built him up as some sort of folk hero, the slightly wild, wily, old boy, ‘a bit of a character’, out there slicking two fingers up at ‘the toffs', its loaded with meaning..... and yet, for the most part, a load of old .....
