Tom Blades who was head of BASC Gamekeepers, said you need 1 feeder per 20 birds in the pens and 1 feeder per 10 birds in the woods. so have we all been putting enough feeders out??

50yard zero 1.5 scope height Hornady .17 grn factory rounds doing 2550fps. As below. 25yds= -5.5"(sorry a tad more than your .25") 50yds=Zero 75yds=.1" 100yds= -.3" 125yds= -1.3" 150yds=-3.0" 175yds= -5.5" 200yds= -9.0" Wind drift is also an important factor as a simple 10mph cross wind will drift the impact point by 2" at 75yds 3" at 100yds and 8" at 150yards. Hope this helps. please also look at the trajectory charts for Zeros from 100yds up to 150 yards in thread No 3. You can easily choose what you individual shooting style/habits are and set up the best point blank zero to suit. Best wishes all.

Some Trajectory figures for the Hornady 17grn M.V. @ 2550fps.You may find of interest.Hope they will help with deciding what's best to set your zero at. I would guess the 130 yard zero would give you an option to shoot straight at out to 150 yards with around 1 inch offset from point off aim. Bare in mind it will be 1" high at 75yards & 100 yards and minus 1" at 150yards. I bought a very expensive pair of Meindl boots a few years ago and the stitching along the seam from boot to sole gave way and water started leaking in, it was a quite big seam leak you could put a finger through it happened on both boots, Tried everything to get them replaced as I bought them in Germany. After many letters to and fro. They wanting the original receipt. they rejected it as it was so faint you had a job reading it. And I got the real run around and ended up so fed up. I gave up and swore I would never buy off them ever again. Be warned, **** quality and **** after service.

A few years ago, I crowned a .17 Rem. centerfire rifle by putting a .22 tip in my drill, and grinding paste on the tip gently offering the tip into the crown until a nice even ground edge was done I seem to remember it took a few .22 tips to do the job. It did not have any adverse effects on the accuracy so don't think the original crown was as poor as I thought? What do people in general think of the idea??

Hi, I go sometimes twice a year to Germany, I take both shotguns and a 6.5 x 55 Rifle. both go in lockable airline approved polypropylene cases. Ammo must be kept separate and can go in your luggage bag, but that is then handled by Currier the same as the Firearm. You need to tell the Airline what you are taking.I insist it's marked on the ticket, usually says " one firearm " just in case. I also put my Mobile No sticky posted on the case just in case again. Highlander has it right, You will obviously also need an EU Firearm pass. Some of the cheap flight airline don't allow any Firearms on their flights. Generally you have to pay quite a lot extra Think about £35 to £40 as a Currier has to take the Firearm and be responsible for its safety he actually should take it, and put it in the airlines hold. He will usually turn up with your firearm,just a few minutes before boarding and goes through the same boarding gate as the passengers, usually he is allowed through before the passengers. I always watch for him coming carrying my case, and if he isn't there within 5 Min's of boarding ask the airline boarding Lady to enquire where he is . As a few years ago my Rifle went missing for two days between Manchester and Stuttgart airports not with standing all the high security. When you book in at the desk tell the Lady you are taking a firearm and she will ring, for I think it is now the Customs man but used to be the airport Police, they will be with you within a few minutes and they will need to see your Passport & FAC cert & EU pass, plus you will need to open the case and they check the serial numbers correspond, then it's have a good time. and the Currier man takes the Firearm. Up until last year return journey my Firearms have come round on the Carousel at Manchester, I know they shouldn't and should go to the special; luggage department. Where on showing of your FAC it's handed to you. The customs are generally brilliant. Regarding your renewal. What about sending a letter to The Chief Constable and ask him to supply you with a temporary "Section Seven Certificate" so you can enter your competition abroad.You will need to show proof of it. He will absolutely not like having the extra work,but cannot reasonably refuse you under the circumstances, I would have an each way bet your original certs will be fast tracked and put to the front and sorted, worth trying me thinks. Bit surprised the question needed to be asked really. But just possibly all may not be lost?,Has your permission similar fields further away, and the pigeons are just favouring the Tesco end? The reason I ask is you could put up a few home made scarecrows, even white plastic bags may do. to keep the pigeons off the Tesco field end, and hope they will decoy onto the other permission fields a sensible distance from the shoppers? I can remember a similar situation on a really massive field, crow bashing a few years ago. They were favouring the far end of the field, and quite near to a Trading Estate. Well with white bags staked out,and my Landy left in the open down the far end, I enjoyed a reasonable days decoying, furthest away from the Trading Estate some 300 yards away.. But is it worth it springs to mind. If you are likely to upset Joe Public, and quite likely be talking with some helicopter SWAT chaps?. Common sense need to be applied me thinks. I have just yesterday bought 3K Cartridge for our small clay club, 1K Eley First, 1K Hull Comp, 1K Kent Velocity all #7.5 - 28 gram fibre, I am a bit suspicious as they are all at exactly the same price £154 per 1K total bill £462:00, Think the whole clay pricing needs investigating as it does look like a possibility that some pricing **** is going on, the competition from abroad, that used to be a cheap source, seems to have caught on with importers hiking prices up on the cheaper ones from abroad.? I just looked at my records and I bought 3K for the clay club on 18/12/2010 all Eley First for £420:00. my supplier tried to cheer me up, when I grumbled at the extra by saying, " there are more price rise in the pipe line" and he's been told his next purchase will be dearer again. He assured me he only make's £5 per thousand on them, and he is one of the cheapest in our area. I was in quite a good mood before I wrote this. Short and Curly and got ya springs to mind.

Okay simple answer, you have to raise the front mount or lower the back mount to give you some mechanically different scope elevation.Ideally this would be to the centre of your up and down adjustment. If the scope adjustments run out you cant do anything more with the scope. so need to alter the mount position physically. (Shim) Depends what rifle its on? I seem to remember 1 thou at the mount is roughly 1 MOA at 100 yds. An air rifle would obviously be lots different 4 thou would be 1" at 25 yards. so you could roughly work out your required shim size. but it does depend on the centres of the mounts? Not quite sure of the question, In an ideal world the required zero would be in the centre of both up and down and side to side adjustment, but invariably that isn't what happens. If you are miles out as happens sometimes, it may require you to shim the scope or mounts, to bring you back nearer to the ideal. I had a friend who swore by photograph negative as a shim. Hope that's the area the question was aimed at, sorry for the pun.

Well this is another very personal taste thing really, I for instance will use the smallest shot size to do the job, Using No9's and skeet chokes, I feel will give you a massive advantage, Big spread high density, but it will only be for full face clays to maybe a little over 40 yards. It might be asking a bit much of the tiny pellets for an edge on clay at range and more importantly a rabbit at distance clay, I have consistently broken the very long crossers up the bank at Hodnet that I would guess are all of 50 yards with Blue Diamond 8 size shot. But again these are showing full face. Hope some of that may be of help.
