  1. I had been out looking over some of my permission the other morning to see if the pigeons were playing out. When I got back home I couldn’t believe the crows in the back field 137. We live in a little village and the neighbours don’t really like me shooting due to the noise but hey ho I just can’t resist it. Put my hide up tonight so it’s ready for when I get back from the vets in the morning. Has anyone ever used a 12g with a silencer on it ? if you have could you please give me some info. I have also just made the frame for my crow trap (Larson trap) different from the ones you buy in the shops and a hell of a lot cheaper. If it works (should do) If anyone wants to know how to make them I’ll be happy to pass info on. All you need is some wood and chicken wire
  2. Hi mate the best bet would be for you to go round a few farms and ask. Always be polite and well mannered. Once you manage to gain permission ask if it would be possible to have it in writing as it will save you a lot of bother if the old bill comes along. Once you have been somewhere a few times ask the land owner farmer if you could have a reference and take that round other nearby farms as they will all know who he/she is? It might take some time and a lot of driving round but once you are in the door or the field so to speak you will be amazed how quickly permission can build up
  3. Give it a go mate. I used to do a lot when I lived in Leeds and ended up getting most of my shooting permission through going round pig farms etc and just asking for ratting permission with ferrets. Farmers always want them gone and after you have been a few times and the farmers get to know you just move on from there. Getting hold of shooting permission on the outskirts of Leeds was like getting hold of rocking horse shi+ and I ended up with more than any bloke I knew that way. Just always remember hygiene mate. I once got sent to hospital with suspected veils disease and thought I was going to die until they told me I just had flu and a sinus infection lol
  4. North coats gun club is only about a 20 30 minute drive from you mate http://www.northcotesbutts.com I think they had a few problems with the website but you should be able to get the details from the link. (North Cotes Butts is located on a former RAF base which retained the original butts used for calibration of the machine guns of WWII aircraft. It boasts a covered 25m gallery range, 100m tube range (approved up to .50 Cal) and clay pigeon shooting. There are facilities for blind shooters to try their luck too. We also have a thriving airgun section with an open 50 yard range) coppied from website and a contact number is on there. I have only been up there once as I dont get too much time and I can shoot pigeons on my doorstep. Hope its of help
  5. If you dont mind lugging everything about all of the above. I went the other day after a call from a local farmer saying pigeons were eating all his rape. It was 2 days later when I could make it. Got out my big massive rucksack. cammos on. packed pigeon magnet, camo net and poles, 12 shell decoys, 6 full bodied, 2 crow, 4 frozen pigeons, fold up seat, large battery for pigeon magnet, 200 shells, flask sarnies and a small packet of baby wipes (toilet to clean blood from hands etc. got set up just b4 first light and by 12 i had only got 2 pigeons. I know they had been a lot feeding there as they were pigeon poo all over. I left the hide and everything other than carts down there for the following day and still rubbish. just goes to show lads it doesnt matter what you take if they are not there you will not get them. only thing Icould put it down to was the phesant shooting off in the distance must have disturbed there flight lines. happy shooting
  6. a good efective and cheaper way is to use rat purse nets and hit them with shovels. just the same as a rabbit net but smaller and be carefull never to put your face in front of a hole and make sure that they are dead b4 you tip them out of the net. You can either buy the nets but not sure where sells them now or you can make your own from fish net stocking legs (wife will love you) or onion bags etc. still use a draw string pegged down. I used to use this method years ago while ferreting rats. I still have quite a few ferrets but after one lost an eye ratting years ago they only go down rabbit holes now. I always wondered about long netting for them and might make a rat long net up one day to sea if it would work
  7. PS i find it easyer when gutting to open up the belly when out in the field. hold the rabbit belly down and shake it so the guts hang out. hold the rabbit by the back legs and flick it hard in the oposite direction. most of them should fly out inc s?it bag (smelly part if cut). pop your hand in and just pull out the rest if any. if your giving the rabbit to some1 else ask if they want the liver etc heart leaving or taking out. the liver is the big red part. kidneys are stuck on the underside of there back. if you put your fingers inside the rabbit towards the head they is a thin membrain the hert is just behind that.
  8. Hi M8 I always put a knife over the pelvic bone poochute lol bang on it and break the bone then take the bone out and clean. this way you dont end up with currents in your rabbit stew
  9. just a quicky rather than going out and buying a lofting pole i use an ole set of drainage rods i picked up for a couple of quid at a car boot. i just painted the caps as they were gold and screw a wide fishing rod holder in the end with a couple of deeks on. light weight easy to use and i think you can pick the cheap ones up from b&q for about 20. something pounds. the cheap light plastic ones are better.
  10. is they no way we could reinforce it tie the wife to it, the fridge at 1end and we sit in the armchair at the other watching tv. everytime we wanted a nice cold beer we could turn it on and she would fly round with a cold beer for us. ha ha better than pigeon shooting where i am at the moment
  11. could anyone please give me a little bit of advice. I live in a small village and own 3 acres of land behind my house backing onto farm land. I have set up a hide 2 acres down the field and never shoot in the dirction of the village and always shoot towards the farmland at the back. i use a 12 bore and was wondering if i could get into any sort of trouble over noise as where i live is very quiet with no main roads and a couple of people who love to complain about anything. I know some of you would say ask the farmer behind you but he's got someone else shoots on there so it was a no no but doesnt mind me going onto his to pick and shot birds up. I
  12. ah thanks for the post. there was massive flocks near me a few weeks back. now they have moved on to somewhere else. last week the farmers were out putting down the nitrogen balls and we had a bit of rain over the last few days so fingers crossed theyl be comming back to meet mr 12 lol
  13. ah so thats where they have gone. im up in lincolnshire and there were hundreds a few weeks ago and now they have done a vanishing act.
  14. Try 4s or 5s but they are a very hardy bird I always take an expandable truncheon with me 1 like the police use. its small compact and does the job when u bonk them on the back of the head and cheaper than using another cartridge
  15. Im in lincolnshire. huge flocks a few weeks ago. a farmer i asked for permission and said no put out scarecrows poles and flapping bags all over. as i drove past i stopped watching hundreds of them eating his livelyhood whilst walking round his scarecrows etc. this week there is non. even if they have broke up there is not a lot about. got 3 acres behind our house neighbours dont like it but can have some really good days on there lol. not had much on local rape etc as they moved home. theyl be back soon
  16. they were huge flocks near my a few weeks ago in lincolnshire. i went out got an escort and straight out to the fiels. they had all gone. tried 3 days on the trot but the odd big flock in the distance but that was it. had a crack at a few really high birds but was just feeding the clouds lead. got a few rabbits then hid under a row of conifers right behind the farm (no deeks) and got a few. working over the weekend but fingers xed in the same spot with some deeks out might get into a few more. happy hunting
  17. Hi mate im over in lincolnshire they were huge flocks near me a couple of weeks ago even landing next to the scarecrows the farmers had put out. talked the wife into buying me a semi escort last week for my birthday. rushed off and the flocks had gone. got a few rabbits that i could have popped off with an airgun so it spoilt the fun really. went out 3 days on the trot got a few pigeons, watched the mad march hares, got some more rabbits but still missing the pigeons
