  1. As the title says my escort magnum is too big for my gun cabinet and im not planning on getting a new cabinet for the next few months as I have to buy a truck and a new rifle, so im thinking or a 26" inch barrell, im willing to swap for my 28" barrell or cash, up to you, please let me know if you have anything or where I can get a cheap one from!
  2. well im going decoying 2moro and your basically saying just put some coys out and then add the floaters and magnet if it is quiet? Because I usually go where I think they are and set up everything! lol
  3. I also enjoyed reading that and have learnt that I need to survey they area more from the point made by Cranfield and By your post. Going decoying on sat and im excited, the friday always goes so slow at work and I cant sleep on friday night because im so excited!
  4. I had the same thing mate, The keeper I help out with took me out for days on end, we were up at 4, stalking, waiting, ambushing and saw nothing for weeks, typical, but on the way home a nice roe buck was on a field on the right of the truck, so as it was on his side I handed him the rifle and he took a shot and dropped it, turned out to be a Silver medal!!! Its been taxidermied and is above his fireplace!!lol. But my first shot I dont remember, But all the stalks I can!!! Its becasue you are on the ball for hours and the shot is over in seconds!
  5. get up there, let us know of the results!
  6. thanks for the advice, I will defo give it a try next time and add bits to the pattern.
  7. I would like to know if you guys get good results without setting a magnet up and just use decoys and the odd floater? Do they still commit? Do you still get good numbers? I cant really afford to do trial and error because I work so much and everytime I go decoying it is precious! lol Just wanted to know what experiences you guys have and what works best or any advice to give me from your wise brains!!!
  8. I set the roatary up about 20 yds away straight infront and the decoys in a horsehoe pattern going away from me! prob not the best set up but it looked good so it hought it would be fine
  9. yamaha grizzly, or the kodiak
  10. Im in need of a cheap shooting vehicle like a Vitara or diahatsu sportrak, am open to suggestions, please let me know what you have. Doesnt have to be in good nick, I dont mind battered, aslong as it will pas the MOT.
  11. Im after a cheap shooting motor, literally for lamping and transporting myself across the land. I dont care about condition, its going to get battered anyway but I want something that can be used on the road, lol. Anyone got anything?
  12. Its either one of these or a vitara, would you take £500? that all ive got?
  13. im looking for something like this, but i really want the convertible one so i can shoot out of it!
  14. Im in need of some new wellies, shall I get the Hunter Balmoral Sovreign or the Le Chamaeu Chasseur or Neo? Im undecided, The Hunter are reduced from £300 to £129.99 and the Chasseur are £275 to £219 with the neoprene version at £165!!!
  15. No one shot on the field for years and thought I was in for a right treat, next time im going to form a round bail hide in the field when it is cut and hopefully rinse them out! lol
  16. well yesterday i took him out to see what his problem was, and i made him sit and stay while i walked round him 360 degrees. I then threw 3 pigeons around him and sent him away. When picking up the bird he sort of bounced and picked it up then feathers came out! LOL. Im not sure if i can repair this, he is a great dog and can be re-taught if needs be. Ill try the lead thing and get the birds myself.
  17. My 5 year old lab rueben is extremely keen, almost too keen and has started to get a bit hard mounthed and wants to play with the retrive. He also runs as soon as I have shot and is starting to show me up! Any ideas of how I can stop this or why this has happened?
  18. I went decoying today, set my hide up well, my trusty camo net and some foliage to really blend in, it was awesome, lol, put 20 shelled deeks out on a horseshoe pattern with a few scattered around and my whirley in the middle with a floater each side of the decoy pattern, my hide was against a wood and right under a flight line, happy days, 1st shot got a cooey in the bag but the rest just wouldn't commit to the pattern, and im baffled. It got quiet and I didn't fire my gun for an hour so I packed up and moved fields to some flattened maize on my local estate where I do a lot of keepering, anyways, same pattern and setup but again they wouldn't commit, any idea why?
  19. practice makes perfect, I have done it since i was 9, im 22 now and can stalk deer across any terrain, but i learnt from practice, watch the animal, when it becomes alert, stop dead and wait for it to carry on, then keep stalking it, tread lightly, dont have shiny or rattling objects, buy some realtree camo and a good set of boots and get amazingly good with your gun, practice shooting eggs, coins, cans on string, old fruit ect and test yourself, shoot your targets free hand standing and give yourself between 3 seconds and 5 seconds, thats how you get good. Ask to go out with someone, when I was 13 I went and knocked on a gamekeepers door and asked for help/tuition and extra shooting, now im basically the underkeeper. Good luck, I remember when I started, From here on, every day will get better!!!
  20. I always zero my scopes at about 30-40yds, depending on what type of quarry you are after and the land you are shoting on, fields, 40 yds, woods, 30yds.
