  10. ive had it a few times (4 or 5) i fired waited if shell never went off i cut it open and tipped out the lead burnt the powder the threw the primer/casing away, thats what i was taught to do with them so even it it did eventually go off it would only pop fudd
  11. to tell the truth they did have an average spur on them, they really werent that young, we decided after flushing the few two or three they were definatly ok to shoot, you can see a spur on the bird on the right, back leg i think and half inch to three qaurter inch long fudd
  12. cheers mate i had one for tea just and it went down very well indeed and they flew as good birds too so if i hadn't shot these my mate would have thanks again for agreeing with me though fudd
  13. id hardly class them as babies to be honest mate fudd
  14. larp i did think that actually id have preffered the birds to have full full tails but my mate was adamant that they would be fine, and when dressed this afternoon they were large birds, as big as, or the same size as the full grown cock i shot last week, so they just werent fully feathered is all fudd
  15. a while ago i got a small shoot about 50 acres with loads of rough patches. we were planning on just feeding it and trying to pull in wild birds but in the end my mate offered to buy birds if i fed so we put 50 down, this morning we braved the wind and rain and had an hour on it, no dogs just me and him walking guns, well we walked it all and out up some very nice birds as my mate paid for them i let him take some of the easier shots (thats my excuse for missing my "harder" shots ) in the end he had 4 and i had three, two cocks and a hen, unfortunatley the hen was lost in a fern bank and we couldnt for the life of us find it so i left wth these two birds, all for just 4 shots fudd
  16. well done mate for two birds on your first outing with a new toy isnt bad going at all and is it really that bad shooting your first bird on the ground? when i was 10 my grandad let me shoot my first ever pheasant with his old .410 and that was on the ground fudd

  18. i'd like to find out just how old my gorosable side by side is, can anyone point me in the right direction please thanks fudd
  19. a good friend who i shoot with has been mithering me to go for a walk round his farm with him in the run up to the season and this morning when he asked i fancied a walk in the sun so i decided to go with him, i took my new side by side and a cartridge belt and drove across to him, at about 8 o clock it was still cool so we decided to walk up the rushes surrounding the brook, i was hoping for a duck to lift but no joy carried on walking up the hedgerows and managed a rabbit and my mate managed a cracking pair of crossing pigeons, and made sure he rubbed in the fact that i missed one straight after we got to his woods and started to walk it up, as soon as i started walking a cock bird lifted in front of me and started to veer off to the left my first shot dropped him first bird of the season!!!! then carried on walking and my mate got a hen got to the end of the woods and decided to walk it back through to go back to the yard, about half way through a hen lifted in front of me, so i let it get about 20 yars before dropping it first barrel again and my mate had another cock and another hen, then on the way back to the farm through the feilds i missed a pair of partridge that got up from some rough only for my mate to drop one which as you can image gave him unlimited ammo to take the micky with anyway we ended the day on a rabbit, two pigeons, 5 pheasant, and a french partridge heres the stuff i shot with the new gun on its first ever outing fudd
  20. went out for an hour this afternoon as someone had been mithering me for a hare, dont like shooting them to be honest and always feel guilty after ive done it but was asked so i got him one, loaded up with 34 gram 5's, i walked around one of my shoots looking for one, saw plenty of them was walking through the grass feilds the cows had been on when this one popped up about 15 yards away shot it when it was about 20 and rolled it over with my first barrel on the way back to the farm, missed two pigeon and a rabbit, then saw another hare that flushed the same way, but couldnt bring myself to shoot two in one day! p.s sorry about the rubbish photo p.p.s i hasten to add it was not shot after dark i just didnt take the pic till i got home and cleaned the gun fudd
  21. thats good i like tight chokes in my guns im really excited about it not fetching it till saturday though looking forward to using it, seems like it will be a fun one to shoot with and sounds like it'll have a good charcater fudd

  23. actually my grandad did fill his gamebag with some mushrooms but he wasnt sure wether they were ok because he said they had white gills instead of black or the other way round im rubbish with mushrooms so we threw them away to be sure but my mums going to cook the rabbit tomorrow fudd
  24. i was out early doors on saturday to try and get my first ever goose or first duck of the season, so was loaded up with some bismouth shells a good freind very kindly gave me waiting for them to flight, well to cut a long story short none turned up!! so after hours of waiting i started the steady walk back and managed to fluch a rabbit, first shot missed then second rolled him over then just as i got back to the yard a cracking high pigeon came over crossing, my grandad said it was about 50 yards, but id say closer to 40 either way a good challeging bird in the wind, my first shot hit home and he glided down and crashed into the ground then today i was out all day after rabbits and pigeons, but didnt see any that i could shoot at, all out of range but managed to flush ducks off all three farms its as though they know when i can and cant shoot them!! fudd
