  1. I think it will probably be a sensor/dodgy connection. THink we got a couple more westerns for sale if you want them lol
  2. Theres alot of people doing stuff like this at the moment weve had problems with equipment and turkeys going missing all our main fields are fenced around the edges 6ft high with metal gates which are padlocked 24/7 along with angled barbwire along the top + 4 police reject alsatians living in the pens. Night time farm entry lazer detection you name it lol weve got it. Had alot of problems in the past if its not people taking stock there taking equipment or its Animal Aid Sneaking around the pens trying to film stuff (that actually happend a few years ago) We had country file here filming here last year after thieves cut trhough the fence and stole some turkeys cant remember how many.
  3. Hexamita's Never good! Seemed to be everywhere last year especially in partridges. So far this year we have had no reports of hexamita in poults on the farm or in release pens. Although i think when people start taking partridges we may see higher infections i think the weather is a big factor!
  4. lol Im not sure where exactly it would be in regulations and wouldnt know where to start but i do know our vets are 1 of the most respected poultry vets in the UK and worldwide. The team are members of the BIAC Expert Opinion Division and the European Poultry Veterinary Study Group so they know there stuff! This is the from we would use to obtain "informed consent" http://www.stdavids-poultryteam.co.uk/game-bird-services/informed-consent-form.aspx
  5. It is possible from specialist poultry vets to get "informed consent" If you obtain this from your sepcialist vet it is possible to use panacur throughout the lifetime of your birds without the need to obtain a new prescription. For use of mdeicinal products under the "cascade". This is an "off label" prescription. Under UK legislation where there are no suitable medicines specifically authorised for the treatment of a particular species or a particular medical condition in that species, a medicinal product authorised for a different medical condition, or for use in another animal species or in humans, or under certain circumstances an extemporaneously prepared product. We work with the feed companys and leading, game farms (including mcfarlane's in america) and vets worldwide, Testing new drugs and trying to get pure breeds back to how they should be as there has been so much cross breeding, pure breeds are very hard to come by especially the old english black neck. If the drugs we used where not suitable we would most definatly not be using them. We have just tested new mycoplasma and worming drugs in our feed this year and i was still forced to use panacur at the end because they just didnt work. Just because your aware of the law it dosnt mean your correct. To The OP this is reccomended does which is on our vets website: http://www.stdavids-poultryteam.co.uk/game-bird-services/medication-dose-rates.aspx
  6. Its been Used widely as long as i can remember and does the job!!
  7. And your presuming he does not have a prescription to use panacur. It is used by the many of the leading game farms in the country including ours We use one of the best specialist poultry vets in the country and he reccomends us to use panacur. So let me be clear to you: Its not illeagal (with prescription) And is definatly not in anyway irresponsible. Every drug used in the treatment of most animals including poultry will build up resistance eventually obviously. Having flubenvet in your feed will help with worms but in no way gets rid of them thats a fact.
  8. Well from what ive killed over the last few weeks it could have been rats, stoats or foxes! Now all dead and problem resolved no more dead ducklings!! good job too as ive put 10,000 ducklings into my sheds this week!!
  9. I Dose mine strait into the drinkers. I put 5ml per bell drinkers. Theres no rules really depends how bad they are. You cannot over dose them so dont worry too much.
  10. Check fuses, insure you check the fuel pump relay, it could be you fuel pump gone aswell
  11. Gas is the best option i would say. Do you already have gas heaters? I think electric would be very costly to set up and run. We have electric to all of our big sheds already for lighting ect but we still use gas heaters.
  12. I wouldnt say its much easier, at that age there reactions are not really that great i can catch a non wing clipped poult when it gets out which means a fox can too I think it just easier for the keeper having them clipped rather than the fact a [redator can get them i think if a fox can get to them it will get them clipped or not
  13. Just thinking about swapping the mounts if i did that shorley it would just then shoot to low? I think packing the mounts may be what i have to do im slightly annoyed with gun shop because its not rite but i dont see the point in driving 40 mins to take it back for them to just pack the mounts themselves so i think i may just do that! Thanks again for the advice.
  14. I really dont unerstand why i should have to do that though, I bought the gun with the scope already fitted it should work properly!!
  15. Hmm yes i may try swapping the mounts not sure if theres a differance? but ill certainly have a look either way the elevation should be half way-ish so i think there must be a problem! Thanks for the advice
  16. I disagree. Clip them, We sell nearlly 350,000 7 week old poults every year and although i hate doing it we clip nearlly every single one, theres a reason for it!! :-)
  17. Im just way above the target not even hitting the board the targets attached to!! I cant understand it, ive spent 3 hours trying to get it right the windage is perfect but to hit the target centre ive got the elevation wound rite in and im looking off the dotted line on the scope nearlly half way up the solid black line?? :S The gun and scope are both brand new
  18. Hi all, I bought a new Air Gun today just to mess around with going to try and shoot some rats and stuff. Its a Stoeger .22 got a decent scope on it ive been hitting the targets at 20m Ive got the windage perfect but i just cannot get the elevation rite ive got the elevation fully down and if i aim bang centre on the scope its still about 3 inches high i cannot inderstand why??
  19. Personally i think you will struggle, Gamekeeping jobs are few and far between as it is and i think you'll find alot of people will be applying for the jobs with more experience, qualifications than you have sounds blunt i know but just being realistic! Having worked and run a syndicate for the last 6 years would help you massivly if you could possibly find a job on a game farm that also has a shoot you could do and apprentiship. The NVQ in gamekeeping and wildlife management would be a good start and having that paper would help as you asked the question would an employer look beyond the peice of paper, i really dont think so! I was keepering for a good few years but im now A rearing Manger for one of the largest Breeders in the UK. Personally the money in keepering is not that great especially in the position your looking to start which is why i went into rearing the moneys better i still get my own house ect and still get to go shooting. I would keep with the plumbing and keep doing the syndicate!!! Hope this helps!
  20. Ive never even seen a hedgehog here lol Im sure it rats there is a small ditch that runs along the side of my field and ive seen rats there before its abit thick for me to get into but ive baited it anyway.
  21. There not really that dominant until they start getting there white featehrs which the younger lot have not. They have 24h access to food and water my boss thinks this may be the problem they are just eating to much and growing too fast with my older lot they are only having food at night and grazing in the field in the day which seems to be working well so far. There is only a few off there feet at the moment im putting it down to the genes and the fact they are bred to be fat and are just growing too fast it seems once they get their feathers its not a problem.
  22. I think hushpower is correct i think its just that they are bred for the table and just grow so fast there legs cannot cope. I Start them on duck crumb then duck grower then after a few weeks i just give them anything as they are so greedy!! Although they dont have turkey food they are currently eating pheasant breeder lol but will be going onto just wheat this week. We are in the midlands we do use a very good game vet but as its not a big problem at the moment its not worht calling the vet.
  23. Good thinking kes, We do have a ploughed field behind my pens and there is alot of moles but there is also mole traps everywhere! But there is a good fence around my field and no moles in my actual field. But i will look into that. Thanks
  24. Yeah they physically cannot walk. Around 3 weeks onwards
