Been trapping Mink as well .. heres a nice female from last weekend Here's some pictures of my new ferrets and the hutch I built .. they are working brilliant at the moment.. albino jill is not pictured.. A few foxes from last thursday..
  2. Fair play.. with the same set up i know that it's not light to be going solo..
  3. As in what time before they are sent down the burrow? I've heard if you feed them only an hour or so before hand the can be inclined to lay up for a quick nap if things are going slow..
  4. Lads, New enough to rabbiting with ferrets, had a few good days using the shotty but have finally got all my nets sorted. My question is when should the ferrets be feed, if at all, on huntings day? If so how long before they go hunting ? Cheers Eoin
  5. Nice looking dog.. My lamping partner got 4 ferrets last week, did a small burrow during the week got 5 rabbits, 4 with the shotty and one with the lurcher... Most get some pictures and post them at some point!!
  6. Frank, whats a box of those Sako costing? haven't seen them who is your supplier? They are around 20 euro a box Eoin and i get them from Trapper Johns in Tulsk, Co. Roscommon. Frank. Thanks Frank
  7. Fair play Pin... I know how SS feels I have released 15 cocks on Saturday just in the cover behind there pen to easy congestion! Get a call this morning from a young lad that feeds the birds and checks things in the morning to tell me he seen a large cub walking off with 2 cocks at 10am this morning!! War has just been declared..charlie better watch out.. Snares and fox traps going out this evening I'll give it a run with the .223 for the next few nights!! Have my Terrier & lurcher man paying a visit for the weekend, so we cold be digging !
  8. Frank, whats a box of those Sako costing? haven't seen them who is your supplier?
  9. The T3 Tactical is perfection to me!! The traps I use are octagon traps from Mike Johnson at Dingle Poultry Supplies at €150 each.. (discount for NARGC Gun Clubs) The ones in the picture are not the best, Mikes one are made from heavy galvanize (middle one)which is needed to keep the foxes at bay. The consist of a center compartment for a call bird and have 4 outer compartments with sliding doors .. Pictures might give you an idea..
  10. Well i have high hopes for a very cold dry winter.. and considering i use the umc FMJ on the range and to set the rifle as they fly the same and are a third of the price it could be a while alright!!
  11. I'm still using the Remington 55gr Accutip.. have about 500 rounds left.. have to move to something cheaper i think.. I have about 200 rounds of American eagle which group well at 100yds but haven't tried them to much especially at longer distance or there killing power, but i've seen what frank does with them so I assume they do the job well.. Got a few boxes of Federal power shock rounds and remington hollow points to try out as well .. but since the accutip are working good and i have a good supply i'll keep going for a while..
  12. Well finally got out lamping last Friday for about an hour before the fog hit.. at least it makes a change from the wind and rain Spotted this good size dog cub in a grazing field about 100 yards in, came straight into the caller (nice for a change) stopped him at about 30 yards and he took it straight in the chest The second was a large dog fox, spotted in a small bit of cover about 150 yards away.. bolted away when the light hit him, caller stopped him but he was having none of it and started walking away.. took him walking away at about 190yards.. Below is my new grey crow and magpie set up, to large holding cages, help keep the birds healthy and clean, allowing me to always have call birds and to be able to swap call birds every few days.. I now have 5 octagon traps and one extra large one for trapping greys and mags.. caught 8 mags and 6 greys today alone..
  13. Great shooting Mark... Nice to see the Terriers at work.. use a terrier man myself when i have a difficult fox.. Nice to see the bunnies... starting to come back in my area after years away The Marlin is a nice gun, not gone on the action myself, bit heavy and clunky but very accurate..
  14. When do your vermin counts take place? Do you ever see the results for your county? I've been trying for years to find out what the top club in the country returns!!
  15. Must be savage numbers up your way Markl! How long are you collecting that freezer load? Must be great having ditches!! all thats over my way is stone walls !! Just lost a huge section of brilliant fox cover to the bulldozer last week !! The new Galway-Ennis road!!

  17. Great write up as usual John, good to see your doing damage.. My lamp man is finally back in town so hopefully I'll finally able to get back lamping! One sniffing around my pheasant pen for the last week.. Brings a smile to my face every time John if your going for a Suppressor go for the ASE Utra AU S5!! (about €300) half the size and quiter than a T8 Just passed the hundred Magpies and 40 greys in the freezer
  18. To pop 3 in daylight!! Fairplay must be a lot around.. Top Shooting

  21. Woke early this morning with the weather finally looking good and no hangover headed out at about 7 this morning. Spotted this cub while driving up the a local river where I had set my mink traps. Paced it at 210, taken with the .223. Check my traps after that and bingo a fine size male mink..

    Bovine TB

True John they are protected but the Department of Agriculture has been culling badgers for over 3 years now. Was talking to a local guy who does it only a few ago as he was looking a sets in a certain area. I often pass on his number to farmers who ask me to shoot badgers. They was an outbreak of TB about 2 miles from my place and nearly all farmers within our Gun Club were contacted by the Department and asked about culling on there lands and possible sets.
