  1. Well my mate came down, browing gun and sgc in tow. We went and spent 10 hours shooting saturday, clays for 6 hours and 4 hours at dusk last night on my permission, we had 250 clays between us and must have shot 150 rounds each, then we went and got diner off my permission, 3 pigeons. Up at 4 this morning set out some deeks dug in and waited for the mist or fog to lift and got a tidy little bag of 6 pigeons, 2 further pigeons we couldnt recover and 2 big old crows. So a fab weekend for my mate who has the horrible task now of driving all the way back up to Lincolnshire. He has had a grin on his face all weekend and is the proud owner as am I of a sore shoulder !!!! l am looking forward to the away match up at his permission soon ! Schmoo.
  2. Well I satin coated her right up and took down the clays and to my permission. She works like to dream, I put 28g clay loads righg thru to some big old 42g 3's and she didnt miss a beat. I even ran 3 differnt loads in 3 case lengths in one go and no problem at all. The only negative is the fact it spits spent shell into the long grass and I spend ages trying to find them. In conclusion not the prettiest gun in the world but as a tool its intended for, first class bit of kit. Schmoo.
  3. Thank you all for your kind words, I will pass them on tonight Happy shooting to you all. Schmoo
  4. Well it has arrived. Yes Yes His SGC arrived this morning in the post, so he is planning a trip down here to the sunny south coast ( not at the moment it aint ! ) this weekend or early part of next week to put some lead down her, we will hit the clay ground and have a couple of trips out over my permission. So all good news, I will get him to sign up and post on this forum, I think it is good for other members to know about other members experiences when applying for or re-newing a certificate. Happy hunting fellow PW members. Cheers Schmoo
  5. Only that he has spoken to the firearms team and they seem to be a bit slow up them parts, FEO only comes into office once a week and internal mail from him to the admin office can take over a week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have said that the FEO report looks good and there appears to be no reason why he should not be granted one, but it may take a further 4 weeks to process it. OMG talk about slow. Will keep you up to speed when I hear more. Cheers Schmoo.
  6. I will do, he will get an account and post all about his journey to get his SGC. No he hasn't been granted it yet, but hopefully over the next week or two he should know. So fingers crossed. I will pass on all your best wishes when we go out rough shooting for a couple of days next week. Schmoo.
  7. Met up with my mate this weekend. The FEO came round had a good chat about this, that and the other. They discussed ammo storage and chewed the fat about the weather too. The FEO had this devil child's rap sheet going back to 2007 or 2008, so he was fully aware of the situation that had been going on at the property, till she went off to sheltered housing last week. The FEO didn't ask too much about the girl, he seemed more interested in the weather and how well my mate had decorated his lounge, nothing really shooting related. I guess the FEO was justing trying to suss my mate out. So my mate feels more positive than he has of late about the situation, so fingers crossed it all works out good for him. Schmoo.
  8. Thanks guys, it is hard work and can be heartbreaking at times, but permission does come in time, I think its more to do with timing and luck. Writing to 80 landowners and nurseries, vineyards etc did help. If you don't go looking to find your first decent permission, it sure as hell won't coming looking for you. Advertise, pop fliers thru doors, bang on doors, speak to guys in tractors, you have to put a massive amount of legwork in, but in the end it will pay dividends, as it has in my case. Schmoo.
  9. Well my hard work has paid off ! All the footwork, door knocking and letter writing has finally paid dividends. I have just been granted permission over 1200 acres of land, 24/7, day or night, Sundays included. To shoot what I want, landowner said anything goes, just keep killing them so the are not eating my produce. What a result. Schmoo.
  10. I started when I was about 6 or 7, my father was in the job and I used to go with him to a police range and fire .22 revolvers and .22 rifles. We got an air rifle and we spent many a day plinking in the garden with it. My son, now 10 started with one of my air rifles target shooting at a range, when he too was about 6 and loved it. He was not too keen on the 12g to start :o he didnt like all the noise, but once he has put some lead out across the fields ( with the pair of us kind of holding the gun at the same time ) he loved it, he can't get enough of it Once funds allow, I will invest in a .410 or 20g for him, I obviously wont use it when he isn't around, nudge nudge wink wink. It is nice to see that despite all the press around with recent events surrounding Raoul, Bird and in my day Ryan and the school shootings ( name slips my memory ) that people like us are keeping the sport alive, by introducing our children to it. It has been frowned upon for many years now, due to people like those mentioned above. I also think that with the advent of video games and movies being as violent as they are today, that our children have no comprehension of the dangers and damage that can come from guns, my son got the message loud and clear when I first took him out with a 12g, I placed an apple at about 30 yards and let fly, **** law only a couple of shot hit it, so not much of a demonstration. Next came the full choke a bottle of water and 40 paces. Lets just say he has total respect for guns now. He did say that the air rifle wont kill me though will it, so out came a telephone book and he shot it, I then got him to stab the book with all his might with a thin screwdriver. He got the messge loud and clear on that front too. I think we are all doing a great job and should be applauded for introducing the next generation to the sport. Schmoo.
  11. FEO coming Thursday. So fingers crossed all goes well. Schmoo.

  13. I will do, she is in bits at the moment. The wood had been linseed oiled by the previous owner and wasn't a finish I liked. I have stripped and drawn the oil out of the wood and am trying to decide what to replace the finish with, I don't want a gloss finish and am not keep on a glass like finish I prefer to be able to feel the wood and not the 2mm thick layer of varnish. I might just use a waterproof stain of whatever colour takes my fancy while in the shop, I wonder if several coats of teak oil put on and polished off will give the desired effect and protection. Schmoo.
  14. Well I have finally got one ! I went for a 3 year old Baikal MP153 28" in wood. Very good condition, was a touch dirty inside now nice and clean. Came complete with original box, all the chokes and key and a nice dark brown leather sling, oh and a few 3.5" magnum shells too. For £300, hope thats not too much money ! I couldn't find one anywhere s/h so when this one came up thought "got to get in quick" Its not the most refined gun in the world, not for hanging on the wall, more suited to banging in nails. Seems robust and strongly made, wood could have been nicer and finished better, but nothing a friend won't have sorted in a few evenings of cleaning, polishing and doing whatever french polishers do ( polish french stuff I guess ) Picked it up and noticed it was a touch front heavy, nothing a few oz put in the stock wont sort out. Fitted like a glove lifted, into shoulder and eye is bang on where I want it. Just got to put it to the test and see how she gets on. Schmoo.
  15. Sorry about the delay in the update. She has gone to some sort of sheltered housing. The FEO has phoned and is coming for a home visit next week, the FEO says this is the last stage in the process ( they have done all other checks in the 6 or 7 weeks he has been waiting for his home visit ) So fingers crossed he might be OK. I will update here once the FEO has been. Schmoo.

  17. True, its a fab gun, I might have to save up a little longer for it, I have had Biakals in the past, proper rugged gun. Schmoo
  18. I agree too, they do look nice to me ( for a budget gun ) Schmoo.
  19. Oh well, if they won't cycle 21g then I guess no 21g will go thru it. The Mrs will have to put up with 28g for now. I will have to get her a nice 20 gauge later once funds allow. Schmoo.
  20. Sco77w did you manage to get any 21g thru her this weekend ? I went and smashed some even in the rain we had, was nice to watch the water jump off the barrels when the trigger was pulled. Schmoo.
  21. That sounds like a great endorsement for the Armsan 612, I am getting one delivered to my local RFD in June, so I can have a good look at it. Its £390 in black and £425 in the walnet ( basic walnut ). Plus if your liking it, it can't be a pile of junk. Looks great and from the reviews I have read and from what others have wrote, it is in a different league to the Turkish made Hatsan (BETTER league that is) Did you manage to put any 21g thru it Sco77w ? Schmoo.
  22. Thanks for that Beretta Italy, the forend would be hidden somewhere else too, meant to mention that in the earlier posts I made. I store my forend elsewhere too, you never know when you might just tip the Mrs over the edge too Thanks for the support again. Schmoo
  23. Thank for that Dekers, I will pass this on to him. Schmoo.
  24. Sco77w, you always know your Armasn 612 would have a home with me if you ever chose to get shot of it. Schmoo.
  25. So does that mean he shouldn't have one ever, as she will always only be a plane, train or bus ride from them wherever they are. Schmoo.
