  1. Ha, easy loose an inch or so ! It's for a drone 10x , other rifles in grs stocks , ideal but expensive! Wait for bits to arrive, assemble , fit the action work out ideal height , then fettle it all up !
  2. Quick hour In the shed , bosses made , mocked up , need fine tuning & glueing up , got to wait for grub screws & inserts this week for the locking screws for the pillars , obviously, not to size yet but give you some idea !
  3. Right , sunday morning, been in the garage rooting , got 8mm stainless for the pillars , some 25mm ally round for the stock bosses , aircraft grade , ordered some stainless grub screws& inserts for the pillar locking , so will have to wait for the post ! In the meantime will machine up the bosses & pillars, going to insert stainless nuts in the actual cheek piece to screw pillars in , so in the future can customize to fit , lastly work out pillar location in the stock for bolt removal! So when get bits sorted will post a picture or two.
  4. Just went for it ! Going to make a jig for drilling the pillars & guides .
  5. It will sand out , hardly anything! Just need to order some 5mm brass or stainless grub screws ... Just checked more varnish gone , in a way protected the walnut.
  6. Well committed now ! Just cut a chunk of stock out ! Now need to give a good coat of looking at, will measure what's needed for pillars & bases etc , machine them up , tempted to put a bed of devcon inbetween to achieve the perfect fit inbetween faces ! Be an ongoing project next few weeks, might go tits up yet!
  7. I'm about an hour and half away! On a decent run , trundle in the truck at 60 ! Be grateful! Come in well handy! If you do get a pile together will collect, swap for sticks if you fancy ? Mel it's the first one I've made , honestly, I'm nothing special, a bloke in a shed , having a go ....can pop down most times in the week, I've had a covid jab aswell ...much appreciated
  8. At the same time made a chopping board , oak centre, ash strips & sapele , finished in mineral oil
  9. Please could you ? That be great , if get a good pile drive down , swap you for some sticks , if you like ..
  10. So finished results, some came out better than thought , others ok , plywood looks decent, it's a cheap & cheerful material, the burl veneers on the plywood leg cleek I like , not fussed on the stripey one , may strip the shank and ebonise it yet ! Makes a nice change using a bit of wood .
  11. This last week, been upcycling scrap ends into stick tops & laminate, filled this rotten knot with resin to make a usable piece, cut up other pieces & glued up to make laminates , salvaged a bit of burl , managed to cut a couple of veneers off it, also glued up some plywood aswell. Blanks marked out and rough cut out .
  12. Laminate more for show , than working, but carnt really see an issue, wood glues are probably stronger than the wood , just something tol mess about with , angled joint is probably easier than a butt joint, seriously just cut on the bandsaw ( pre drill holes first ! ) then final fit with chalk & blade/ file , really not that difficult.........honest😉
  13. Blackthorn thumbstick, ideal beating or dogging in stick , just about straight!
  14. Just used gorilla wood glue , everything clamped up tightly for 24 hrs .
  15. I've been working on 3 sticks this week , a buffalo crook on a blackthorn, and something a bit different, made some laminate up of ash , purple heart & think sapele? What I had bits of , mounted on a striped chestnut shank , bit funky looking! Lastly just finishing straightening a blackthorn thumbstick, on day 3 of that ! Hopefully be done today..

Bet he kept the scented candles.....
  20. Looking at pinterest, thought id give it a go , built from scrap , the pine was a gate post cut off , round ones , phesant pen post cut offs , other was some hardwood blocks & lastly a piece of oak with black walnut feet , cheap as chips to make & easy....
  21. I have a record dust collector but in the shed connected to the bandsaw at the moment, so moved the belt sander on a workmate by garage doors , least open to the air , but still filters collected that dust up ! Makes you think..
  22. Laminate made , quick sand , couple of chips but looks ok , thinking of a couple of funky stick tops ! Wearing an air fed hood when sanding for about 5 mins , garage doors open , amazing what's in the air , filters knocked out ..
  23. Cheers for the likes , whilst waiting for glue to dry , had a go at a bowl / tray out of spalted beech , drilled out with a forstner bit & freehanded the router , not easy that ! Bit of chisel, fair few errors & lot more sanding!
  24. Honestly, if you follow a process ,its pretty straight forward, know what you mean about the brass , not something I do a lot of , also tried stainless & aluminium, brass looks the best , I've just cut & glued pieces up to make some laminate! See if that works !
