  1. Depends really, on my Zander jigging rods and light spinning rods its 20lb Whiplash just cos theres not much thinner out there. That said Im going to change on the light casting rods to 20lb power pro as Im just getting so annoyed with wind knots on the whiplash.

Medium plugging rods its 45lb Fireline, if you snag up a lure with this it normally comes back with a hard tug (be very careful doing this though. A mate recently ended up with a 2oz jig stuck in his forehead where it came flying back, he wasnt wearing his polarising glasses either so was lucky not to lose an eye.)

The bait rods have 35lb fireline on and it really is good stuff, especially after a few months once its softend up.

I dont do any jerkbaiting but if I did it would be with 80 or 100lb fireline.

Theres some great prices for braid now and given it dosent stretch, lasts ages and is generally pretty user friendly its my only choice for piking. It enables you to get the action needed into lures, really lets you feel the fish scrap, lets you get your tackle back from a snag with just a bent hook and dosent degrade in sunlight.

  2. Mackies or Sardines for me :good:

Also Wrasse is surprisingly good as well, best in fishcakes or the bones will drive you mad. Most people will say wrasse is horrible, but I bet theyve never actuallty tried it!

Ive never been a big fan of Cod especially after my brother in law who worked on the fisheries protection vessels told me a few stories! Lets just say that those nice 'fresh' fillets you see on the fishmongers are often anything but. That said Ive found the local morrisons has one of the better fish counters, the mackeral actually look as they should, not grey and blue.

  3. what he means is that you should be able to use a tripe writer to attempt, by the use of lots of meaningless and uneccasary words, justification of something that is plain wrong, blunt talking and plain truth hurt's these days, I wonder why? back the the question will he end up gay? most likely! will he live a long happy normal life? not a chance in hell.

My basic point is that Elton John and his partner will be able to provide a loving home for their child where that child will have a much better homelife than many straight couples provide and as far as im concerned that is the important part, not the fact that they gay.

I dont know whether their kid will be gay or not and I dont think having gay parents will make a difference to the kids sexuality.

    EDIT

Think I will drop out of this one now, Ive said my bit and got my opinions, youve got yours and were not going to change our minds, so ill be off :good:

  4. OH,Yes very witty charliebrown,i was just giving my opinion,or am i not allowed to do that, why would i want to read, look,at a book?

Thanks, I do try. As for your opinion, yes of course you can have one. I understand your against same sex couples having kids but youve yet to explain why apart from 'its ******* sick'.

  5. Of course its not better its equally as WRONG you only have to watch that plonker kyle and his daily freak show to see dissfunctional families who should be nuetered by law

    No arguement from me there

Problem I have with two gays is the fact they are now considered the "norm" and capable of bringing up via adoption or fostering needy kids, the hypocrisy however is that if your fat or physically disabled you are not considered "suitable" and many loving couples get refused, I would suggest that the acceptance these days of gays is not down to a better understanding and social acceptance , more so thats its a govt and media driven thing, pushed by gay mp's amd media luvvies.

So just because some loving couples are refused is a reason to stop a gay loving couple adopting? Surely that cant be what you meant?

  6. CB what are you on about........ they have not had a child a lady did (thats a female lady with female lady bits) and she sold it to them.........

Well all right then, one of them provided the sperm so is the Biological Father, the lady ( one with female lady bits I assume) provided the egg, and the biological father is to raise said sprog with his partner who is male. Close enough? Ive still not got a problem with it. Somehow I dont think we are going to agree on this are we Pavman

  7. My issue is that aside from this case where the child is going to be well protected, a child (and certainly a boy) is going to spend the first 18 years of his life being bullied, ridiculed, beaten up, blanked, ousted and alone due to the fact that he has two dads, and very very few people will accept it.

So they may have a loving home environment, but what the **** are they supposed to do when the leave the comfort of that home? To go to school, the shops or whatever. We all know how ruthless and cruel children and teens can be and I wonder how many victims would kill themselves as a result of having to homosexual men as parents? Kids kill themselves due to bullying over colour, race, religion, weight, being ginger, buck toothed, poor and literally all the reasons that kids get bullied for. So how many would kill themselves over bullying connected with this subject?

    Loads I bet.

Is it the gays fault? No, is it the kids fault? Yes. Are you going to stop it? Not in the next 200 years I bet.

Very good point, Ive said for a long time that the gingers, fatties, peasents and bugs bunnys of this world shouldnt be allwed to breed.

Sorry, but although I see your arguement about bullying I dont see that it should be a reason to stop same sex couples having kids.

  8. yeah the kid will grow up well balanced, and with a normal view of everyday life and society, like my left foot he will, he will be so confused and mixed up he will probably end up topping himself or overdosing on some recreational drug before he reaches thirty, kids need a mother and father not two "daddies".

Like it or not the world is changing, there is no 'Normal' family anymore, if there ever was. Single parents faced these same attitudes and preconcieved ideas 20 years ago, and Unmarried couples faced them another 20years before that. 20 years from now we will wonder what all the fuss was about.

  9. Used to be an Abbey Bowman myself :) Shot recurve for a year or so but lost interest. Try these guys Chiltern Archery if you haven't found enough bits already! Also have a range if you're down that way.

Small world isnt it? I was there when they still shot up at Nicholas Breakspear school in the summer, and indoor at some old hospital hall thing in the winter, About 10 years ago I suppose.

  10. I did a bit years back, was a member of Abbey Bowmen. I was never really serious about it, just used to go along for a bit of fun. I know what you mean about the gadgets, I had a quick look round an online shop a while back and didnt know what half of the stuff was for  I considered starting again a while back when I was fishing and came across a few blokes doing Feild Archery at the venue. They were shooting plastic foam targets while moving through the wood at unknown ranges and it looked great fun! I chatted a while to a bloke who looked a cross between Conan the destroyer and Gandalf and he really sold it to me.

So what bits did you get?

  11. Apparently not, besides these are apparently good monkeys, I am going to look into bird shooting for a subsequent trip though

We talked about Guinea Bissau a few years back and it's a place we might do in the future. If you change your mind and consider Kenya then I can help you put an affordable package together. We book separately and Baggy has been going there since I was in short trousers so we've collectively built up a fair number of contacts and know how to get the best deals. I guess packages are for somewhere you've not been before and have no contacts for - unless you prefer just paying the dosh and letting someone else worry about all the logistics etc. To be honest this last trip did take a fair bit of planning but I got a kick out of doing it and it ensured we were totally in control of pretty much everything.

Thanks for the offer of assistance, I might take you up on it at some point! At the moment Ive not done many specificaly fishing trips abroad, so its always been easier to just pay the money and let someone else deal with any problems but I would prefer the freedom that doing it yourself gives.

I am told that while the area you fish in Guinea Bissau is safe, its the traveling part that used to carry risks. Apparently the easiest way to get to the fishing was to fly to a neighbouring country then travel to the destination (which was, from memory, a group of islands off the coast). A new airport has opened or a direct flight or somthing which now makes it a lot easier and safer to reach the area. Im afraid I cant remember the specifics as by that point I had already decided against it, but despite the issues he rated it as being some of the best fishing hes had.

    Tight lines.

  12. Very nice indeed, the jealousy is definatly kicking in! Youve obviously done this a few times so do you book as a package or book seperatly?

We were planning this years trip, couldnt decide between Guinea Bissu (seems incredibly cheap for amazing fishing) or Thailand (I fancy a Barramundi while a mates got designs on an Arapaima, we've found a lake with both), so I spoke to a well travelled angler I know who told me on his last trip to Guinea he was mugged twice before even leaving the airport, and again on the journey to the lodge! So Thailand it is then!

  13. I did a rib of beef a few days after xmas, I have to say that it was one of the best bits of meat Ive ever eaten. Wasnt anything special, just asked the butcher for a two ribber, and that fed 9 of us (we did have 5 courses in total though!). I just rubbed it in olive oil and pepper, gave it quick going over in a pan to give it some colour, then sat it on chopped carrots, parsnips, an onion or two and a couple of sprigs of rosemary and thyme. it weighed about 3.5 kilos and had half hour at gas 8 then gave it about 2 hours at half that, rested half hour and the veg used to make proper gravy with some stock and red wine. Was lovely and rare, just showed it the knife and it carved itself. Beautiful.

  14. If you haven't got it sorted by the new year let me know as my brother in law is starting with Palletline so may be able to sort a decent deal, if you send any as well charliebrown he'd be your local one.

I only do the odd one Alex but I will drop you a line for some more details of his firm next time I need some shifted, cheers :good:

  15. Had a big tin dropped to me at work earlier today, its looking a little empty now

Why is it at christmas our capacity for food and drink seems double what it is the rest of the year?

Also Roses or Quality street? Personally im a Quality Street man myself, You cant beat a Toffee Finger :shifty::lol:

  16. Cheap tin, hot oil (i use olive too) decent spuds, (king edwards, Wilja, Desiree (red), MAris piper) I tend to go for Red skinned spuds, par boil, then drain, Shake in the pan, then into to the already hot oil (heat tray on hob if you can, but be careful) then 30-50 min in the oven, try and get the spuds roughly the same shape or half/cu up large ones you want them about the size of a hens egg.....

Cheers, I know the theory, its just putting it into practise that I struggle with. TBH Ive not tried for about 12 months now (since last christmas actually). The only times Ive bothered with them before that was when ive had a few people over, so possibly its a case of too many in the tray at once. I do a cracking mash though, so all is not lost :good:

  17. Roast spuds are easy mate! Boil spuds 5-6 mins till they are just softening take out and dry on akitchen roll. Get oven to 220c put spuds in oven with olive oil all over in a tray, sprinkle fresh/dried rosemary on watch for them going anice brown-job done! Or roast spuds par-excellence substitute goose fat for olive oil :santa:

So everyone keeps telling me! I just cant do em, tried every bit of advice going and all end in abject failure. The annoying thing is when I have a BBQ in the summer I do spuds as youve mentioned, only I cut them into inch cubes and dont parboil them and they come out really well. Roast spuds are clearly just not meant for me :/

or pop to shop and get aunt bessys roast spuds :good:

not the same as the real thing but what meat should be without roasters

    What, you mean CHEAT? Never!

(although I will keep a bag in the freezer, just in case :yp:  )

  18. Im not a fan of christmas with rest of family (single, no kids), so ill probably go fishing xmas day, got a dozen mates coming over on the 29th, and doing roasted pumpkin soup, Tout fillet on buttered spinach, beef rib with the usual suspects and a choccy log with cream and also a boozy jelly for dessert. Only problem is I cant do roast spuds to save my life, so might change the beef rib to some sort of pork just so I can do apple mash instead
