  1. Morning all, is it just me or does the site seem to run a lot slower since the upgrade? When im scrolling down a topic for example the page will kind of freeze for a couple of seconds then jump down to where it should have been without the pause? Its only happend since the upgrade happend so is it just a bug that will work its way out or is it a permanant thing? Or is my PC **** and I need a new one :oops:

  2. Just spent 4 days stripping a Victorian slate fireplace (carved and ornate not rough cut.)

Anybody know the best thing to treat it with, for some reason I've been thinking linseed oil?

Wanting something that darkens it a little and protects from the odd spill or cup ring.

    Thanks in advance.

I would use a slate dressing oil, dont worry too much about stains etc as slate is pretty impervios to staining etc. Interior stone is not really my thing but Ill see if I can get some info for you

Try giving this firm a call www.originalfeatures.co.uk I know some of the blokes there and they definatly know their stuff.

  3. Clean and chop one octopus Put it in a pot that has olive oil put on the lid and cook it slowly for two hours dont fry it let it slowly braise season with salt pepper and smoked paprika once the octoplus starts to get tender add chopped potatoes red peppers and onions and garlic if you cant get smoked paprika chop some choriso in at the first stage but you can ussually get it in Tesco. The trick with this dish is to cook long and slow you can double up quantities because it freezes great I havent given weights as I judge the other ingredients against the amount of octopus. :santa:

Gentleman! One for this weekend I think.

  4. Jamie Oliver has a great recipe in his Italian cook book I will get dutiful daughter to upload it for you. Failing that heat a wok till smoking dry your squid season with salt n pepper

chop a chilli (hot as YOU like) and a clove of garlic put some, not much veg oil (not olive) in the wok put in squid garlic and chilli cook for 1 minute put in some parsely and lemon juice and serve right away if you cook it too long its like rubber but you can cook it long and slow and its tender but their is no in between. I also do a octopus potato and pepper stew Galician style I'll dig it out for you.

That Octopus recipie would be great if you could find it. The salt and pepper one is how I often do it as well, great minds and all that :good:

    Kyska

I had a bash at your recipie and given that I normally dont add enough ginger to stuff, I overestimated then added a bit more :good: Despite the overpowering ginger taste (my fault) it was nice, so im going to have another go later this week with less ginger

  5. Afternoon all. Im a big fan of seafood and squid in particular and im after some new recipies to try. Ive done the whole calamari thing and salt and pepper squid, so really just want to try somthing new. Any ideas?

  6. You are all heart. As long at you find it entertaining i'll keep writing the rubbish! Another gem today after my saga at the port (in Delhi? Look at a map how can it be a port?). I'll save it for next weeks edition

    Andrew

I import from India so can imagine what sort of problems you may have had! Delhi port is probably an Inland Container Depot, not sure but thats my best bet.

I know of a freight forwarder in Delhi who normally gets stuff out of the country but might be of some assisance to you. His names Manish and the firm is Diamond Clearing and Forwarding, based opposite the BSES Building, Kalkaji.

  7. Well we ordered 5000 for the place I work. Vistaprint were less than half the price of the cheapest local printer (or anything else online) we could find including premium cards, personalised back and delivery.

    :good:

If it works for you then fair play to you, I only had 3000 done, the first lot never turned up after the 14 days, so had a moan and they resent a load, which arrived after a further 14 days. So 28 days in total to arrive, useless lady on the phone when i tried to speak to someone there.

Last time I went to a company locally, phoned them up about 10 am, lady visited me about 3 o'clock to get an idea of what I wanted. Next day an envelope arrived with a choice of 8 different styles in. Phoned them back with my choice and she dropped 5000 cards round two days later. Cost about £120. As far as Im concerened Im quite happy to pay a bit extra for excellent service. The company was called Image-ry in St albans and im dead happy.

  8. I hate Vistaprint with a passion, you see this big advert saying 'free business cards' when you actually get on and design, add colour, add a photo etc then they hit you for £15 postage if you want them in under a month :good: By the time youve been through all that aggro you could have got them from a local small printer for the same money and had them next day. Get on the phone to someone local.

  9. weird bit is we had to apply for small business rate relief which was 50% off then we got informed it was now free and didn't have to do anything about it. We're Welwyn and Hatfield council so really the people in the rates office should be able to help all you need is your properties rateable value and they should be able to sort it out from that, here you go its all here just keep reading down where they give the update at the last budget

Gent :good: As soon as ive finished Skivving on PW working hard I will have a look.

  10. 16.6m3

Are you sure you dont mean m2? About a year ago they visited us to check the rates, they ended up going down! which was nice. We spoke to someone at the council (sorry not sure which department) who gave us the info we needed to check they were correct so a snotty call yourself and you might get through to someone more helpful. I wouldnt trust the theiving gets word on anything though.

Alex. Any idea where I can get more info on that scheme?

  11. Right then, as its getting colder and memories of summer start to fade I thought I would suggest this soup to keep your spirits up. Trust me, its lush!

    Ingrediants:

Equal amounts of Sweet potato and Onion (I prefer Red onion, if you use a normal one I would suggest using more potato)

A chilli or two (or plenty if you like it firey)

    Garlic

    Vegtable stock

A **** of butter (You may choose how large you would like your **** to be)

Start by peeling and chopping your Sweet potatos into small cubes.

Peel your onions and chop fairly small.

In a large pot melt your butter and on a medium heat fry your onions until they are starting to soften

Add your Potato and sliced garlic and give the lot another quick fry

Add enough stock to just cover the veg

    Add your chopped chillis

Bring it up to simmering and cook until the potatos have gone soft, as if you were going to mash them.

Blend the lot up to a nice consistancy. You can add more stock at this point if you like it a bit thinner.

Serve in a bowl with a bit of grated cheese and a dash of cream, add some decent crusty bread and your well away.

Dead simple dish that tastes great and is nice and filling for those really cold days to come, plus you only have one pan and the blender to wash up, happy days! You can add stuff like like a bit of Paprika if you want, I sometimes add cinnnamon and nutmeg as well. I make up a big pot and leave it on the hob, come home from work or fishing and just turn the gas on to heat it right up while I flick through the paper and tuck in as soon as its heated. That usually lasts me a few days.

  12. Well, id agree with whats been said. Bought a jacket though which was OK for £45 off some lads from Darbyshire. Actually it seems like quite a good buy, kept me warm and toastie when I was spinning sunday evening (not that it was that cold though).

Spoke to a bloke running a bar near the entrance and asked if he had been busy, his laugh said it all.

  13. I did that course, and only ever used it once in anger-On the dance floor at the local nightclub. A bird went over and passed out after too much sherbert and was out for the count.

I expect you needed to loosen her clothes a bit? Just to help her breathe of course :hmm: B)

  14. In todays Metro-sexual paper there is a massive article on face cream and looking after your skin. told you im a big deal

So, im going for Thalgo Cryodetox (£16.00 from Space NK) and then a nice dollop of Nivea Visage Q10 with SPF15 (£10.65 for 50ml)

Sounds like a winner, and lets wait and see if i turn at the next PW shoot looking like Brad Pitt or Tar Pit B)

    :hmm:

    :P

  15. If you go to the Clinique counter at your local department store they'll test your skin and give you a 3 step skincare system that's perfect for your skin type and will help you to maintain your youthful looks.

You'll also be given some make-up samples as a free gift.
