Well the rain stopped and the mist burnt off, there were roe barking everywhere but not many showing, so on the way back to the truck to jump venues I saw a set of antlers in the grass, stalking in closer we saw a vixen and cubs out sunning themselves and there were x2 bucks laid up. We closed into 50m's off the bucks but were still 300m from the foxes, with the crosswind I decided it was to risky frightening the fox with a close miss so opted to just shoot the bucks. I will be back tonight and drop sidney off for her whie i take my client out further up the hill. Well done foxy stu, nice shooting a left and right roe buck (neck shots) and captured on video. Gone well considering the rain. 17 bucks and a 3 legged doe. But only 3 x6 pointers been shooting smaller beasts in velvet. Some big bucks appearing saw 3 last week so hopefully they will stick around for the danes. My season beacuse of my eyes didn't start till the 9th so done well... Thank god I bought a Harkila pro-hunter coat and ordering the trousers now. Been kept dry as snuff.

Some rea belters there mate, well done. Do you cull any small bucks with clients or are they just bone collectors? I have some Danes over soon they are wanting bigger bucks BUT will also shoot the smaller one also. regards john

After days of torrential rain and only seeing fat does and a BIG buck we saw loads this morning, just having to eventually brave the weather i think. We saw this and approached from 500m's to about 100 in the gloom of heavy rain. Worrying he would slip through the hedge or lay down we took the shot which presented itself. Agreed it was a poor show. Probably doesn't reflect N.Z. shooting on the whole? And spud yes i fancy a bash................ :blink:

My estate rifle 6.5x55 139gr sp which did expand well and has taken 100's of deer cleanly.
