The idea of man and dog is something I am really looking forward to in a few years time when I can give one the time and attention it deserves. Rabbiting like you have experienced just sounds great and I love game days when all the dogs are around us.

I agree. The forces that have come in to play to create the muzzle flip could not possibly be countered by a few slots in an extended choke. IMHO I think extended chokes are awful looking things, easy to change.......yes, but damn ugly.
The other thing that they are good for is protecting the ends of your barrels, if you happen to let the gun slip off your shoe guard onto concrete or the like.

Is the porting only on the upper portion of the choke then?
And that's the point that most people seem to miss !
They are ported all round so I agree with you - they are of no benefit - practically.
At least ported shotgun barrels are only ported at the top so should help counteract muzzle rise.

It seems every trade is so cut throat these days.
My job involves a lot of contact with car body repairers / painters, and the prices they charge are ridiculous now compared to 20 years ago when I was in the trade. We use to get good money where as now body shops are hacking prices down just to compete with one another.
Unfortunately another sad sign of the times!

Strangely enough I had an email from Amazon earlier this week asking me to check certain security details.
My account was, supposedly, temporarily locked so needed immediate action !
This is a well known scam trying to get login and security info from people.
My advice is - if in doubt, then delete.

It seems like every other weekend that someone is celebrating something and letting fireworks off.
They seem to have lost their appeal to us now as they are the norm rather than just bonfire night and new year !
I know where people are coming from with the 'when I was young' stories.
I'm horrified now thinking back what we used to get up to with fireworks - the worse was pulling your coat sleeve down over your hand whilst holding an air bomb repeater and blasting away at trees in the local woods - very Star Wars !!

A friend called round yesterday to show me one of his guns. It was by a fine English gunmaker from Birmingham and the barrels were 24 1/2'' long. They were made that length and had not been tampered with. The chokes were cylinder and improved cylinder.
Great Skeet gun !
