  1. Nearly 40 years ago, I bought a camo face net from Cogswell and Harrison. It covered the head completely and had a small area of black mesh to see through. I saw something that matched the description on a website somewhere last week but can't find it again. Any ideas??
  2. Someone once told me that the Herring Gull and the Lesser Black-Back are the same species. They evolved, apparantly, in different directions from the Baring Strait and we are where the ranges of the differently evolved species merge. Not sure if it's right and no birdwatcher is able to tell me different. YET!!!!

    John forsey

Try these: http://www.where2shoot.info/store/index.htm Don't know how their skeet vests compare with others for price, but their tweed coats are cheaper than anywhere else. The wording of the John Forsey advert in this weeks Shooting Times, suggests that they might be closing down!!
  4. I also allways thought it amazing, but the Bison were heading the same way, I believe. It depends how hungry people are perhaps, or how stupid the bird is? The last passenger pigeon died in a zoo. What do the Americans have that compares in size to our woodpigeon? NTTF might be able to get an idea of what we are talking about. Have a look here; http://home.conceptsfa.nl/~pmaas/passengerpigeon.htm
  5. This just Social Engineering. They are wanting to build lots of houses in the country so that 'their' voters can move in and outvote the locals. It seems that down here you can't get planning permission for more than a few houses unless you include about 30% 'affordable' or social housing. The housing association 'quangoes' get the permission and then can't find local tenants so they have been bringing down 'overspill' from places like Wolverhampton. The crime rate has rocketted.
  6. Many a true word spoken in jest!!!
  7. When I think of a dove, I think of something about half the size of our woodpigeon. Is there anything to eat on an American dove? Was the Passenger Pigeon about the same size as our woodpigeon?? Off to work now!! If anybody called Nightwing turns up on the forum, make him welcome. He works in a sports goods store (hunting section)State Side.
  8. Just clicked on the link. Put in the postcode and got a picture of somebody I didn't know. The name was right though!!
  9. What the heck is Gen 5 going to be like? I must admit, I am not now sure if Gen 3 is a passive IR device or not. I had thought it was a device that gave a picture of the temperature of the target but that appears to be a completely different animal. The adds say thet they can be used in complete darkness and them go on to talk about image intensification. I have read somewhere that there is a health risk with Gen 2 devices, or was that rangefinders? Interesting to see from a search that I did, how many Gen 3 sights have been taken to the Gulf by we Brits. A potheticly low amount. I'll say no more.
  10. Is the Titan Manitou still made? That was a good cheap pre-charged, and could easily be stoked up by all accounts.
  11. Have a look at your F.A.C. conditions. Does it say you can use it for anything other than pest/vermin control. Remember that the police are not allways the best source of information. Most of them are only on a par with the bottom layer of industrial workers, but they have the system on their side, and are programmed to take any gun they can, out of circulation. Semi-autos over 3 shot were banned for wildfowl shooting in 1987, I think. I think that is why Remington brought out a 3 shot auto called the 11/87! Pump-actions over 3 shot were not banned for wildfowl at the same time, from what I remember. I can't remember if 3+ shots (Pumps and semi-autos)had to be put on F.A.C.s at that time. I am pretty sure that it is still OK to use a repeater with a magazine capacity restricted to 2 for shooting anything. If it wasn't, then Browning would have started making their old 2 shot semi-auto again, I'm sure. For over 30 years, I have been a trustee for a BASC club shooting on and around a privately owned stretch of water, over which the public have rights of navigation, so I try to keep up-to-date. Reynard895, don't worry about making mistakes. It's the most efficient way to learn. There are a lot of youngsters reading these posts though, so we don't want them misguided into breaking the law and losing their right to own or use a gun. If we can learn from other peoples' mistakes, so much the better Perhaps the next legal point could be the use of stoked up 22/250s with a high muzzle energy for shooting deer. That though, will have to be transfered to another topic!!!

    Dogs

I quite agree. I have seen people with dogs over the years and whatever breed they have, the dog always has the same ways with it. A lot of the problems are due to having the dog indoors, where it can be corrupted by the household. OK if you live alone, but a family can spoil your dog.
  14. Here's a list: http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/alms.htm
  15. Quote from the website: "For shipping addresses within North America, you may choose from next-day, 2-day or 3-day UPS delivery. Fully insured, of course. Do you call Europe, Asia, South America, Australia or anywhere else in this world home? As a licensed exporter, Simon's routinely facilitates customs cleared FedEx deliveries anywhere in the world, usually within 2 to 3 business days." 'Customs cleared' is the problem, I presume. Not sure about these: http://www.nightvision.ru/products.html Does Gen 3 mean the same in Russia? From http://www.starlightnv.co.uk/: "Gen. 3 devices are produced only in the USA and the Russian Federation both these countries enforce strict export sanctions upon Gen. 3 devices, consequently there are no commercial Gen. 3 units available outside these two countries with the exception of a limited supply that were manufactured in the UK." "Military/Enforcement Night Vision These are generally state of the art devices that attract high prices because of their very high build standards and excellent night vision performance. The US military products are very strictly controlled particularly so in Gen. 3, consequently US and Gen. 3 devices have very long lead times; up to 6 months. Western European and British devices are strictly controlled export wise but their lead times and the time taken until export approval is given is much shorter. Two European manufacturers produce a range of super Gen. 2 tubes with their top of the range intensifier tubes being equal to or better than most of the American Gen.3 tubes." Not sure what to make of all this. It appears that Gen 3 scopes/binos might be easier to get hold of than rifle-scope/sights. http://www.nightvisionexperts.com/heatseeker.html http://www.aimdiscount.com
  16. When did it become illegal, I didnt know that. Since 1987(I think) you have had to have a F.A.C. for any shotgun over 3 shots. Perhaps it was just autos then, but pumps followed. If you get an F.A.C. 3+ shot for pest control, you won't be able to use it for duck. Do you know anyone who has been granted an F.A.C. for a large magazine shotgun to shoot wildfowl?
  17. Have a look here: http://www.nightvisionexperts.com/osprey.html They say that they export!
  18. A chap showed me jacket completely of pink/orange or somewhere between the two. He used it in this country. It was full of goose down. I dred to think how long it would take to dry out after a soaking. It did not appear to be waterproof! Once the winter has set in in North America, I don't suppose you have to worry about rain, just wind and temperature, or am I wrong? We can go out in -10 F before dawn and experience an inch or two of rain by nightfall, so our clothing has to be multifunctional. That's why we are all questing warm breathable garments that are 100% waterproof. The Riverswest stuff looks as if it might fit the bill.

    Dogs

I had a Flatcoat for my 16th birthday and would not consider anything else. They will lie down and go to sleep covered in ice if the foreshore action is a bit quiet. Been without a dog for about 5 years now. Not really worth going out with a gun without a dog! I see some of the best Golden Retriever handlers in the country picking up on shoot days, but a little flatcoat that I bred, in it's first working test, beat a dog from the same (Golden) kennel . It was trained and handled by someone who had never had a dog before! All the people I see in the beating line with springers seem to have to used the leads a lot.
  20. At the prices I have seen, they are probably the only ones who can afford them!! They are out there, but at a price!
  21. Is there a reasonably priced GEN 3 night vision scope available?
  22. A few years ago some local business men brothers bought some flight pond shooting on a local estate. They turned up with 8 shot pump-action Brownings(it was legal then). During one flight, one of them had 5 duck with six shots out of one group of duck as they departed the pond. "You can't do that with a Purdey". He remarked to the keeper, with a grin on his face. A few weeks later, the same chap had a jam during a hot bit of shooting. "You don't get that with a Purdey". Remarked the keeper, with an even wider grin!!!
  23. I think you'll find that in North America, deer hunters wear day-glow orange to avoid being shot. It might even be the law to wear it!! This should get some reaction from west side.
  24. What ranges do you zero your rifles at?
