  1. They're great live bait for Bass.
  2. There are lots of people who are obsessive mullet anglers. Coarse fishing rods with a lightly adjusted reel clutch and line under 5lb bs seem to be required. They use a lot of bread mash for ground bait and dough for hook bait. A landing net is a must. There is now some interest in fly fishing for mullet, but I've never seen it done! http://www.chippyjersey.co.uk http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/medway/

I liked it that much, Brian.
  8. Go back to the start. Get her stopping when you shout NO! with a jirk on the long lead. Then when she will stop at a distance when you shout NO without the lead, blow the stop whistle directly after shouting, so that she associates the stop whistle with the NO command. I dare say NTTF will have some advice on this! You might want to use the stop whistle with the long lead without going through the shouting bit, but what if you don't have the whistle with you?

  10. I swore, some time ago, that I would not buy another brand new car unless I could also afford to pay somebody else to clean it. I believe the Ozzies swear by Land Cruisers, but most of them are far from the damp salt sea air. If you live near the coast and don't want to clean it, then you've got to drive something that is either dirt cheap or made of ally.
  11. You obviously don't know me. F.A.C. holders are not allowed intemperate habits. My grandfather used to be invited on stage at the temperance rallies in the late 1800s to show what teetotalism could do for a man!! He never drank (alchohol) until he was over 50. He was born illegitimate in 1858 and left £29,000 when he died in 1939. The best advice I ever had from my dad was 'Don't start drinking until you're 21. By that time you'll have enough sense to know when you've had enough'. I got to 21 and thought 'Why start now'. Never tasted a drop till I was 26. Can't stand the taste of it, but if I have to go into a pub to find someone, I might have a cider shandy! I always say I'm daft enough when I'm sober, let alone having a drink to make it worse.
  12. If you check your traps in the late afternoon/evening, emptying your bladder around them will help keep foxes away!!!
  13. Yet another strange thing about dogs. English Pointers can be 'orange' but the same colour in a Welsh Springer is 'tan'. They say that there is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners. Both welsh springers I have known, have belonged to the same person. NUFF SAID?

If the CZ .22 is the same as the BRNO then you can't go wrong.
  17. Welsh Springers seem to bark more than English and the colour of the 'liver' is more like 'orange', from what I have seen. The shape of dogs varies so much! A show English Springer seems to be almost the size of a Labrador, but most people who want to work them would want something smaller. From the little experience I have had of Cockers, I wouldn't have a solid colour one, especially a golden. Their temperament seems to be suspect. Liable to bite people when excited. Some local gamekeepers are using a few cockers more now, but only one is a solid colour (Black). Back to lurchers! Perhaps a greyhound crossed with a foxhound might give the offspring some stamina. It might not retrieve though! Met an American over here last season who had a pack of hounds, not sure what he hunted with them. He also said that he and his wife did a lot of shooting from horseback over 'pony dogs'. They couldn't get on with driven pheasants at all well!!
  18. It's mild at the moment, daytime at least, but in general I think it is best left till April for the sake of the call birds.
  19. We used to do it in one rookery near here. It's a boys job really! They are supposed to build lower down when they expect a bad summer for wind.
  20. Rabbiting with a lurcher is great fun. I've never had my own lurcher but known people with some exceptional dogs. My uncle used to go out with a chap who had a lot of rabbiting pre Mixxy. Being a bit of a numbers person, he kept a record of the rabbits caught. It was a Golden Retriever X Greyhound I think. His name was Rusty and caught over 26,000 rabbits, besides dozens of foxes, before he died. One friend collected a lurcher one night and was impatient to try it out. I took him to a local farm. It caught 3 hares on it's own, the first night. There were more hares than rabbits to be seen in those days.
  21. Traditional rook pie was made from young rooks that had not yet left the nest. Any good climbers here?

    GUN BARRELS

Spray the barrels with Abbey Metal Protector. It will kill any shine and keep the water off. You will have to use a solvent to remove it, though.
  23. Got this Email today. "We had an office in the UK, but it is closed now. I do happen to have one or two Dakotas from last season lying around here. Pricing would be $199 USD. And, we only have it in Mossy Oak Break-Up. Otherwise, the Sawtooth Mtn. Parka will be available soon. (PRICE: $299) Best Regards, Matthew Ryan RIVERS WEST" Next year perhaps!!
