  1. Made the mistake of getting a 3 gun cabinet too
  2. Well the chap came around and he was a very tidy chap. Only asked about 3 questions really. Why did I want a gun, Where was I going too keep it and how many people in the house. He did mention the daughter but it just came up on the computer check and was not really an issue. He was more concerned about explain what too do once I get the certificate as regards what too fill out when I buy a gun. He is going too pop back once my cabinet is installed which I have just ordered to check but it is in the bag really. Just got too wait now as he said they are very under staffed due too cut backs. So it might be quick or take ages no way he could tell on that score. So time too have a root through the forum on which gun advice
  3. Well that was quick got a guy coming tomorrow for a chat he said there was no problem with the application just needs too have a chat about after I have the license. Caught me on the hop with there speed I don't have the cabinet yet but I can discuss with him tomorrow. Be getting that 20 bore hushpower sooner than I thought
  4. Yea mine is planned too go under the stairs. All ready reading up a 20 gauge hushpower but I better forget about it now until it happens and concentrate on me fishing
  5. Well form is all done ready for the post in the morning. I spoke too them on the phone but they couldn't really say until they process an application so I may as well give it a try. One question at what point do I get my cabinet before the police visit or after ?
  6. I was thinking of applying for a shotgun license as I have plenty of land too shot over. But in the past 6 months due too my delinquent daughter we have had the police out too the house a few times. I have never been the issue just she gets out of control so we have too get them out. So would I be sunk before I start do you think ?
  7. I agree with washerboy. I have two jill and an 8 month old hob if I had too keep only one it would be jeff I just like his slower speed and nothing seems too phase him
  8. Yep I took him too Huw's class on Sunday and as you say seems a very nice chap and it was an hour well spent. Excellent opportunity too get my dog accustomed too other dogs as well which he is not good at (my fault) Huw said he is a show breed cocker which I new but hopefully that wont cause too much of a problem for his potentially future rabbiting career
  9. Thanks eccles I am in Carmarthenshire just a bit too far unfortnately. I think I am trying too run before I walk as I am only just getting a handle on his basic healing. He does the site and stay bit ok. After a few trips in the field he seems to have switched into hunting mode and now when walking on a lead he just wants too dive into the nearest hedge. Anyway I think I need too get the basic ground work in first ah just found this site which is local too me http://www.gundogs-wales.co.uk/index.htm just sent them an emai
  10. He has never done any hunting before just been house dog with walks around the town down the beach etc so this is new too him The objective is too get him too flush out and put rabbits too ground and hopefully mark the holes. Bit of a long shot but he has a natural hunting instinct and enters cover fine putting up woodcock that he has never seen before in his life. The plan is too spend the summer drumming the basics into him. Oh no guns involved just ferrets
  11. Hi I am trying too turn my 5 year old cocker into a ferreting dog. Is there a way too train the dog too keep with in a certain range. On our first few trips he was quite good responding too call and swinging around but today today he refused too listen and took off for a fair few hundred yards before swinging around when he was ready. I got fed up of constantly trying too call him and put him on a lead and went home. I need him with in range of say 50 yards ideally Any pointers welcome Thank you
  12. Ok NTTF and as above a big thank you for your time
  13. Good too hear Ian. One thing with mine though is he has started trying too put his nose down is this some thing I should stop. I have previously been give him time too do that when I stop and give him the length of the lead too have a sniff around before to proceeding on our way
  14. Well too update you the training is going great last night for example during a one mile walk I had too correct him 4 times compared too 44 a week ago. Also getting excited when we go is getting much better. He has learnt though when I am pretending to go and just put the lead and when I am really going. When he knows I am not really going he just goes too sleep with half an eye open on me in case. I think he is walking slightly too far ahead when my left leg is forward his shoulder is level with my foot but he is not pulling so I haven't complained But there has been a massive improvement very quickly thanks too your help. I am going too keep concentrating on the lead training then once that is definitely drummed in I can move on too other aspects of his behaviour Thanks Terry
  15. Thanks for the replies decoys are ordered and I better brush up on my marksmanship for woody head shots
  16. Thanks for the link and advice just ordered some decoys. Some good videos there too
  17. Hi if I know pigeon are flighting down a hedge row and I wanted too decoy them. Would the plan be to get them too land in the field or would I be better off setting the decoys near too a tree in the hedge so they land in that. Also would I get away with a couple of full bodied decoys too start ? and any recommended sellers Just seen these on ebay I could stretch too them if they are worth it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-FULL-BODIED-FLOCKED-PIGEON-DECOY-SHOOTING-PEG-FEET-/190545638214?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item2c5d67b346#ht_2196wt_1037 Thanks Terry
  18. A rope choke at the moment though I do have normal leads too but don't tend too use them
  19. Well just took him out. He starts too get excited when he see's the lead so this is where it starts. I get him sat down down fine with one sit. Get the lead on and he starts too squeak but not too bad. Some times he will yap the place down but then I refuse too take him. I go too the door and make a point of keeping him behind me. We then made it a whole 70 yards before he started too pull. Now this is some thing new because as a rule it would be about 4 yards if that. Now this may have been because this morning he had a run around the woods or last night I had been trying your program for the pup. But he ignored the treat so started switching direction every time he pulled (googled that one). After the 70 yards we did about a mile with him walking tidy 5 times for a short period each time. I pulled back on the lead and said heel in excess of twenty times. He all ways seems to want too be some where else asap and if you come too a gate or a road which delays things he starts too get excited and noisy Thank you for taking the time too reply NTTF much appreciated
  20. Would the training listed here http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/2870-obediance-training/ work with a 5 year old cocker more pacifically the lead training part. His general obedience around the house is great as he will basically do any thing for a treat but does pull like a train. Which basically means he is a pain too walk so does not get out as much as he would if he was trained as all the family members would love too take him out and about more. His other issue is his excitability when you come too a door or gate he starts too get all squeaky and hyper (this applies too lots of situations). I do all ways try to make him wait and I go first. Thanks Terry
  21. I will post this in another part of the forum Thanks
