  1. Thanks for the pointers every one. I think drut I am the same as you as you say with the hushpower I blot out the target and thats when I hit but with the o/u I need to do it differently
  2. Started back shooting this year with a 20g s/b hushpower. At first I couldn't hit a thing but when I gave up trying too aim it and now basically point it in the right direction with both eyes open and obscure the target with the barrel I am having success. I rang out of cartridges the other day and swapped too my baikal o/u and thought with no drain pipe barrel I should try and aim but no luck I couldn't hit a barn door. Plus having two barrels I found I was just wasting the second shot in a forlorn attempt. Any advice for me please ? I just shoot pigeons as a rule
  3. Well glad I went yesterday tried again this morning and only 1 pigeon just the odd one about. I think the two chaps yesterday stayed all day and gave them a battering. I will give it a couple of days too regroup and try again
  4. Well I was on site at 6.15 this morning loads of pigeons about and I had my best so far with 25. Missed more than I hit but it was great fun. I had too get away early too go and get some more cartridges for tomorrow. Was surprised when two fellow shooters turned up after me not that is was a problem and nice too see them plus it kept birds moving. Round two tomorrow
  5. Oh right I see so no great panic then. Will take a peak on Sunday maybe As for the legal side yes I am protecting the standing crop next door Thanks for info
  6. I notice the combine has just started today on one of my permissions on the corn. I could see plenty of pigeons in woods surrounding. So I assume I need too get onto the field asap ? This is my first year pigeon shooting so all bit hit and miss literally. Was doing ok when the fields were sown but been quiet since the crops have grown
  7. Sounds like he enjoyed his under cover and work a bit too much and pushed it too far so too speak
  8. Well tried them again tonight medium heat in the pan in butter / olive oil for 1 1/2 either side then in the oven gas 1 for 10 minutes Had them with new spuds, asparagus and I did a mush room sauce. They were just right the wife was enjoying them until she chomped down on a pellet she then found a further 2 pellets in hers so not good. As a rule I check them over but been getting lax my shooting is so bad as a rule I only hit them with the odd pellet. Sure most of them die of fear or more likely laughter On the plus side I suppose my shooting must be improving
  9. Give the air filter a clean first then change the fuel filter you can hook it out the tank with a bit of wire as a rule and just push a replacement on at least that is how they used too be
  10. Hi I have some flocked decoys off ebay full body about 3 months old. Is it worth painting the white bits again as they are looking a bit dusty and dull and today they seem too have very little effect though that may have been nothing too do with the dullness of them. If so what paint is recommended Thank you
  11. I make a point of eating any thing I shoot so stick too rabbits and wood pigeon at the moment which makes me feel better about it. One of the farmers has asked me too shoot any foxes I see but luckily I haven't come across one yet. As a youngster I had no qualms and would dig a vixen with cubs with the terriers no problem and not think twice. I just loved working the dogs but I cringe when I think back some times you are right there kes <It isnt just the killing though, its being there, having access to land to walk and watch the wildlife and be close to nature all contribute. > I feel really honoured too be allowed too wonder around some of my permissions as it is such a privilege now a days
  12. Just don't puncture the insides and the smell aint that bad. Not like when I used too work in the hunt kennels skinning sheep and calves. You couldn't beat a nice ripe bloated sheep stomach going pop in your face I used too catch a bus back and forward in them days too
  13. the birds are at the bottom but it would be a better choice. Thanks for the replies
  14. Thank you link here http://binged.it/MbjZaI
  15. Not a clue too be honest just trying do things by the book getting overly cautious in me old age maybe
  16. That was a good idea thank you. 358 down too 297 at the narrowest point so that is that then
  17. mmm sounds bit dodgy I have a 20 gauge and no5. Might not be worth it. The dual carriageway is raised so chances are birds would be directly in line with traffic so I might forget it unfortunately
  18. Hi I have a new permission on a field of sown maze. At one end I can set my hide but 350 yards (paced out) up the other end is a dual carriageway in my line of site. Am I safe too fire towards it ? Up one side of the field is a minor road so my options are a bit limited Thank you
  19. I shot a couple of pregnant rabbits over the weekend more too keep the farmer happy than any thing. I would have much preferred a pigeon. I don't particularly fancy eating them as I find it a bit off putting. But in my old age I am reluctant too kill things just for the sake of it so they are prepped and in the freezer
  20. You eat rabbit through the summer months then ? I had a couple over the weekend both pregnant. I didn't want too shoot them but the farmer wants them shot. Both in the freezer as I don't like too waste stuff. The wife was not amused though
  21. I bought this gun off clippo and would like too say if you ever deal with him he is 100% guy and gives a great service
  22. Yes good point definitely worth a try thank you
  23. Recently got my shotgun licence so managed too get a few pigeons in the freezer. Any tips on getting the pigeon nice and tender ? So far I have tried roasting whole and after looking on the internet times varied between 10 minutes too 1 hour. I opted for about 40 minutes and the pigeon was well over done and like a tennis ball but still very tasty. Next I got a couple of breasts well oiled up then got back too the cooking two breasts 2 1/2 minutes each side then rested. They were not as tough and a little bit on the rare side but tasted fine. But I would like them too be fall apart tender so I can make a nice pie. So I think for that maybe casserole them for a nice long time in some stock with the lid on for a couple of hours a bit like I would a beef shank so I can get my pie filling ?
