  1. He left this picture on moochers.....
  2. THe reason you spent 5 hours on 2 warrens is probably because there was young rabbits in that the ferrets caught, killed & had a nap after eating them. Wait till october or around that time.
  3. I find that the red filter brings out the eyes very well, but you cant see right across the field, as you can with a white light. Amber filter, allows you just about as much visibilty as white, but without the brightness to spook them. They reckon red lights are good for foxes coz it relaxes them. But if its a pop in filter, or flip you could use white light, find the bunnies, then flip to red, so u have an idea of where they are at. well it works for me....
  4. common sense can work this one out for ya. If i was snaring badgers do you think i would come on a public message board to ask about it? Where any one i free to come on and look, antis police gamies etc....
  5. Reloader: 3inch off the floor? Considering you have a rabbtit snare 5.5" from the floor, i dont think thaty is right. So are the foxes usually dead when they are snared or have you to kill them yourself? Considering i havent got shotgun liscense, is there any other way to quickly and safely dispatch charlie?
  6. Best day this past season. On my own, about 9 miles out of town, on a moped. Had to carry ferret box, bag of nets, spade and long net. As well as 7 rabbits. Just using nets and two ferrets. No digs. Another good day, was with my mate near the same bit. Two ferrets, nets. Got 9 rabbits, no digs. I dont think 9 rabbits is bad, any more than 9, what do ya do with them? Ya can only eat so many.
  7. SO how high do you set snares off the ground?
  8. Okay, so how do you snare foxy? Like what size snare do you need? How high is it to be set? where is it best to set them? I am asking these questions before i acquire a few fox wires as i want it done correctly without causing un-neccesary suffering, and dont want to get a badger accidently, so any hints/tips, any pictures of fox tracks?
  9. Dont mean to be a b@stard, bt as they say; everyone to themselves. TC as an example, you are out long-netting one night, you see 60+ rabbits in a field, that you dont have permission to be one; do you do it? As long as you dont use the light, no1 wil be any the wiser. As far as police goes, they stop by the side of the road when they see the lamp then look about the field with a fairly **** spotlight, we just get ourselves back of the dyke and dont get seen. As i say, dont mean to be a b@stard
  10. Theres a lot of things thats illegal, we still do them. lol About rabbit snares, set them 6.5" off the ground. use a wire tealer to hold in position, Bray peg in the deck with a hammer. Set thesnare in the middle of the beat (which i think, is what you call the little tuft of grass that the bunnies jump over)
  11. Nice one! Did you shoot it or did you dog it? LOL (of course im only joking - imagine trying to break that ******** neck)
  12. ah, the old copter game. We used to be on that at skool all the time. THat was my 1st go in ages and got 500. Al beat the lot of ya!
  13. How do you manage that 1 then? Do you go out, come home, go out again, come home again, and so on? Personally i would rather go out all day. And if i had the land, and the time to go every day, i would and i dont think i would get bored. It's just when you dont have much land or land with not many rabbits on, last year, when i was 15 i didnt do much because i couldn't travel, now i have a moped
  14. Ferrets - preferably 2 Nets - at least 20 Spade - any type Locater - about £70 that'll do you, also you could do with a magical little thing called Experience
  15. I only have it on here, and Moochers.
  16. They can ban it, but it won't stop us!
  17. I think this topic should be 'pinned' to the top of the board. Coz theres a hell of a lot of recipies here and theres plenty of people that like venison. Only a suggestion......
  18. I was watching a video "Buisness of ferrets" and a woman said she was using nets made of "Rayon" Does anybody know about this twine? Does it need stored, like hemp, when damp. Does it tangle as easy as nylon? Also, I asked this earlier on, but no reply. Is 10z nylon any good? Does it tangle easy?
  19. I went to Penrith Market (not that you will know where it is - North West England) I got goretex over-trousers in cammo for £20 and jacket with a button in fleece, complete with hood, large pockets etc... that was £30. It wasnt waterproof but I sprayed it with silicone spray. Now it holds the water, but eventually lets thru - and that takes some time. The jacket is also in cammo. I always wear the jacket with the fleece buttoned in, as when the jacket startes letting through, the fleece protects for another 1/2 hour of HEAVY rain, but with the fleece in, i only wear a t-shirt underneath, because with a jumper, even on a cold night, it gets RED HOT!!!!!
  20. I see you like the flicking method then? How old are you velveteens? I am assuming your about my age (16). When i first started rabbitting, i always used the flicking method, but it is a hell of a lot easier to get your hands stuck in. I hold rabbits from back legs shake it so that its guts go to its rib-cage (so when you slit, you wont bust the ****bag. slit it pull the slit apart (if needed) stick hand in pull the lot out
  21. Has anybody got any photos 'in the field'. I just wanna see what sort of bury's you ferret, and how they vary across the country, i will try get some of my own this weekend.
  22. If i stopped ferreting at the first pregnant doe, i would have stopped near the end of december. We got a few milky doe's out on the lamp, on an area i do not ferret. I ferret a bit in a village called "Hayton" and i got milky does last time i was there, so i am not going ferreting there till next season. All the seasons are changing, my ferret hob is coming into season now, and i am sure one of the jills are aswell. We seen a deer down the river the over day and it had full velvet antlers, which is early. I dont start getting heavily into ferreting till about november, but i think this year i will start in september, well i will be getting a car soon, so i will be alrite. I have been knocking up a few miles on the moped! Only thing about the moped is it gets freezin and boring.
  23. today, for my tea, made a casserole. I put rabbit, hare, and pheasant in it. I must say, it was delicous. I was a bit stuffed afterwards, because as well as 2 rabbit saddles 1 hare saddle and 1 pheasant leg I had a pan full of potatoes. I think it might give me some trouble in the morning though
