  1. Dave, no the T30 is great. Underside is spotless. I’ve just spend s fair amount on suspension bushes, and arms etc the only things that are wrong with it is diff bish and heater. However I’m just in a position to change. Shame as I love my T30, it’s got the pedders loft kit on which is great
  2. Good morning everyone, so after some considerable thinking and back and forth with the Mrs. Time has come to replace my trusty 2004 X trail. Most of my driving is the 60 mile per day commute to work. When I am out shooting and off road it is only stubble fields, farm tracks, the normal general stuff really. been and looked at a fair few different makes models, all the usual, however the last one I looked at was a new shape, 2015 Nissan X Trail Tekna. And I have to say I was massively impressed with it. Does anyone on here have one, thoughts, experiences etc One of the lads on my shoot has one and he loves it.
  3. Thank you walker. I’ve shot for 7 years and still class myself as a newbie. But there has always been something missing and I think a little mate (and my accuracy) is it. i did a good job with my last god, a beagle called Colin. He was a well trained pet. But I want to get this pup best I can. i have read startin them in your room. And over a week moving them into their own room reduces separation anxiety that is why I ask ill get some picks up when I pick her up. She is a lovely little black lab from good working stock and a great breader... I’ve named her “Bear” as I am crazy about bears.
  4. Good evening everyone so the date is rapidly approaching when I pick up my first lab pub. ive a couple of dogs before but this will be my first gun dog and first lab. I am keen on getting the first days right. I have read about keeping them close for the first few nights and slowly moving the distance away. This is not a problem due to the make up of my house. eventually she will have a crate in the utility down stairs, which will be her own room. i was thinking at picking her up and be her bed for the short term one of those plastic pet carriers. Is this what people would suggest? If so what size would best suit a lab pup? any other tips to make sure I get the first few days : weeks right ?
  5. I do like the look of the freelander 2, and it is something I am going to look at this weekend. i desperately need a new car. I have a mixed bag to look at really but the freelander 2 will be one of them
  6. I was going to ask pretty much the same question... my x trail has finally come to the end of its life and was starting to look at the freelander 2, about 2014 model but I do worry about reliability issues
  7. I do 60 to 70 miles per day commute, currently have a 2004 x trail which has been superb. It’s sitting at 182k and I feel it maybe giving up the ghost so I am starting to look at other options. i did look at the freelander 2, on paper they are listed with higher mpg than most others in the same class. I have found a lovely 2009 x trail so I am considering that. Mate of mine has the 4x4 Qashqai and I have to say it performs very well around the fields. Another lad on the shoot has a Honda CR-V, also copes with much more than I thought it would. I do like the idea of a freelander 2, however it would take a lot for me to return back to the green oval, I had a 2010 Range Rover sport and it was horrific for things going wrong. We also have a brand new disco sport at work, again the things that have gone wrong with it at the age it’s at.... my local mechanic swears by the freelander 2, I guess you take your chances no matter what.
  8. Hammereron, I most certainly will pass on your regards. We are going back on Sunday to take the kids. Bears parents are Tara (I think it was I have it wrote down in my book) and the father was Red. I was very taken my Red he was a beautiful dog, very handsome and great natured. Grandparent was Jade, we met her too.
  9. Well thank you everyone for your help and advice. After visiting a number of breeders and doing a fair bit of reading. I have put a deposit down on a lovely little black female. They are from Salrowbra, so thanks Hanmeron for your recommendation. All being well i will be collecting Bear (her name) 17th November. Seen both of her parents and one of her grandparents, lovely looking dogs. Extremely happy and cannot wait now. Thanks again all Here is a pic... not the best
  10. Im only over at Barnard Castle, not far at all
  11. Thank you all for the help and advice Perce some cracking looking labs there. Where about are you?
  12. Further to my last, is there much difference in sex? Insert humour comment now! i immediately thought male, but my good lady posed the question.
  13. Dave - thank you for the advice. I have a couple recommendations slightly closer to home but if they fall though I would be willing to travel for a good dog. Hod - unfortunately I lost mine at 7 years old. A right character and a well missed part of the family. Hanmeron - they have been recommended to me. I’ll also contact them. Again thanks for the advice. What is the situation with the hip and eye scoring, it is an area I need to look into (no pun intended). Can anyone explain a little more,
  14. Good evening everyone As the title suggests, I am looking for recommendations for good Lab breeders in the `north east England area, however I will travel for a good breeder. I have shot for 6 to 7 years now, mainly pheasant, duck and the odd pigeon day. I do a very small amount of walk up days, minimal really. I have not had a gun dog, I did have a beagle who I unfortunately lost early part of the day due to ill health, and it is only now I feel I would like another. but this time I do want a shooting companion I have selected a lab due to my main shooting types, never trained / owned a gun dog before, also having two young children, I believe a lab is going to be best bet for me. The ones that come along to my shoots all seem steady, good workers and all good character. That Is not taking anything away from the other breeds out there. I am planning to start looking now, giving myself time to meet breeders, do my home work and also get the house / garden ready. along with breeder recommendations, any hints tips, best time to get a pup and any other considerations would be great thanks in advance
  15. Yeah I agree they all have their problems at the moment I have a 2004 x trail with 175k on the clock. It has the pedders liftkit, is great off road for what I need and in the time I’ve had it, not an awful lot has gone wrong. im expecting it to die in the near future and just wanted to consider what else was out there
  16. I think it’s clear that staying in the jap market is the way to go. shame as I did like the look of the patriot. Thabsk for the input everyone
  17. I got a second hand cz452 and it’s a lovely gun. It was clearly well looked after and I got a very good deal one it. its worth considering just take your time looking
  18. Thanks I’ll have a look at one for sure. I do have a little bit of time before the x trail finally gives up the ghost
  19. Yellow bear. Was that petrol or Diesel? on paper the diesel is marginally better than the xtrail
  20. Does anyone have any experiences with the Jeep Patriot? I am aware they have a VW engine the reviews seem to be so different
  21. Thank you JjsDad I’ll certainly look at the rav4 I fell out of love with Land Rover when I had a ranger rover sport, nothing but trouble with it. We have a 2017 disco sport at work and it spends far far to long in the garage, it’s embarrassing how much it’s there. i much prefer my jap stuff, as much as the Jeep did catch my eye. as for load, I’ll need to load 2 kids in the back and a dog in the boot and like I said most of my driving is commuting A roads to work. When it is off road it’s nothint to taxing. saying that when we had the heavy snow I went off road with the xtrail and with the AT tyres and raised suspension I was pleasantly surprised with how well it did ill make sure RAV4 is on my research list next
  22. Quick look on auto trader, the forrester and The yeti Are a bit out of range what I wanted to spend, the handful in the price range already have 150k on the clock but thank you for your suggestion
  23. Good evening people. I am after some help and it is another “what car” thread. I am in need of you good people for my next car. I have w horrible feeling my 04 xtrail with 173k is failing!! so I need a be vehicle and would like to stay with a soft roader. I drive 60-80 per day commute so it needs to be as economical as the diesel xtrail with similar tax. i do take it “off road” However it is mainly farm tracks, fields etc as i have said I have the 04 xtrail, I’ve got AT tyres for winter months and I have put the pedders lift kit on it. It’s served me well and when it does give up the ghoast it I did stick with another xtrail, at least I can swap my bits on to it. My xtrail has not been without fault and some times a change is nice.. I do worry another won’t live up to this one too. one that really has caught my eye it’s the Jeep Patriot. I’ve read some reviews and to be honest the reviews are all over, either brilliant or terrible. Does anyone have experience of them? ill also look at the RAV4 and vitara. il spent £3000-£4000ish (given the miles i put on it and all the rubbish I put in the boot I don’t want to spend any more really / I also have a 2 seater project in the garage) id love a L200 or similar however they are just to heavy on juice. so prob what I can see I can get a 2004 xtrail with about 60k on the clock or a 2008 Patriot with similar miles. I’ve not stated looking at the RAV4 or grand vitara yet. certainly keen on people’s views on the Jeep.
