Thanks for the ideas guys! Evo is certainly out of the question on fuel and insurance!! Think a nice sensible diesel hatch is what Im after. Then I might get a pipe and some nice slippers as well. Cant wait to see 50+ MPG after a couple of years of high 20's!!

Having had my previous car smashed to bits I am now in the market for a new one. I dont think i need a 4x4 anymore although something with a bit of ground clearance would be good for rough tracks etc. I also want something with good MPG ie over 45 - 50 and with decent insurance and road tax.
Any ideas, I also want to spend around 8K. I had though of a dodge caliber but have been shot down in flames by a few mates and the reviews dont look too good!
Any ideas?
Thanks

Has anyone had any dealings with a company called Drive Assist?
I was involved in a car accident last weekend which has damaged my own car, which was not my fault. My insurance company then farmed me out to Drive Assist to arrange a courtesy car and repairs. They delivered a £28,000 BMW to replace a suzuki!!!
Anyway I have been warned by numerous people now that this company is very good at finding damage on courtesy cars when they pick them up. Has anyone had any dealings with this company and what were your experiences?
Thanks for any help!

That suerly defeats the purpose of obedience classes, banning it for misbehaving. Sounds like the trainer didnt know what they were doing.

Series 2 actaualy, and as my user name V8
Let me fix a chain to the back of you Vitara and to the back of my landy and I will pull your chassis out straight
Thanks for the offer but think Ill let the body shop do it!! I was actually surprised at the lack of superficial damage to my car as the other one folded up like a paper bag!

Better a pimps car than a hair dressers car Only joking.
Now you can get a propper 4x4
HA HA!!!!
Thought I might get a series 3, but then remembered your one!!!!

Thanks for the replies! The car is a 55 reg and my mechanic mate has put a rough estimate of about £3000 on the repairs. Its off to the insurnace company body shop tomorrow anyway!
As a bonus the hire car they have given me is a BMW 318 d M Sport!! Goes like **** off a shovel but does look a bit of a pimps car!

If you do make one be bloody careful. A few of us bought an old Bowman a few years back. The bloody thing fired a clay at my mates head when it was supposed to be decocked and disconnected. A few weeks later it nearly took his hand off. Its in pieces now!!!!

Can I refuse to accept the car back if it is going to cause me problems in the future?

I think that ones up to the insurance company!

One for the mechanics I think.
On Sunday a rather dosy driver whacked into the back of my Grand Vitara at around 45 MPH. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt even though her car folded up like paper!
On first inspection my car looked ok, just bumper damage. However further investigation has revealed the tow bar bracket has been moved back about 1 inch. There are uneven gaps on the back passenger side door. The chasis also looks like it has bent downwards at the back of the car and the rear wheel arch has closed up by several inches.
A mechanic mate has had a look before it goes to the repair shop tomorrow and he reckons it can be fixed. The question is does having your chasis jigged weaken the car? When I come to trade in do I have to tell the garage it has been involved in a crash of this size?
Thanks for the help!

The answer is easy mate. Get yourself a gas banger and a couple of 50KG butane canisters. The banger should last a good few weeks with that amount of gas. When the neighbours complain just tell them to **** off!!!! SIMPLES

I have a 8 month old black lab only had him a month and started training him with a club for gundogs he his good at sitting etc but i have trouble with him on heel he pulls all the time on the lead not as bad as when we first got him he was like a train.
I have tried giving him sharp tugs on the lead but this does not do nothing
We he See's another dog he just pulls hard on the lead and wants to play this is a bit embarrassing as he is strong and pulls hard.
Thanks for any info
Keith
Get a small 240 volt generator and attach it to your belt then run an extension lead to the dogs neck and when he pulls just hit him with 240V. He wont pull again!
Ive not tried this one yet so let me know how you get on!

I am looking to buy a new shotgun in the near future and have been looking at several examples. One of which is a caesar guirini (spelling?) maxum. Its a good looking gun but I am wondering about build quality and reliability. Does anyone on here have one and what are your thoughts.
Thanks

I have a shooting mate who swears by peeing on his dogs. He reckons it helps them identify him when he is out shooting in company!!!!
His dogs are some of the best trained I have ever seen.

It was an arrietta and the seller was asking £950
He had a mint condition Royal Crown in stock a few months back for £1200 which I regret not buying!

Some of the highest duck I have ever killed have been shot with 32 gram no.3 steel. I took some out decoying as well to compare them to 32 gram no.5 lead and the steel kept up with the lead out to a measured 45 yards. I dont tend to shoot further than this with either shot material.

Thanks for the replies! Having had a better look at the gun I think it may have seen some use! Think Ill carry on looking.

Im looking to buy a sidelock sxs and came across a nice looking Gunmark Sabel Crown.
I have read that these were made by arrietta of Spain. Does anyone know if these guns are hand made?
Also the barrels are brown rather than the normal blue or back. Is this the normal finish on these guns?
Does anyone know of any particular faults to look out for on these guns and roughly when they were made?
Thanks for any help!

I had one of these. Brilliant gun. Take the forend iron off and look at the ejector kickers inside the wood to make sure they are not cracked. If they go it is a £200 plus job as they have to be made from scratch.
If its a multi choke check the threads in the barrels arent rusted and the chokes are all in good order.
Dealer markup on new guns

I used to work in a gun shop on a saturday when I was at school. The shop didnt make a huge amount on guns or shotgun cartridges but did make a huge profit on rifle ammo and air rifles in particular. Air rifles were about 50% profit, clothing etc also had huge markups.
