  1. It only does it when the car is travelling at speeds of 40 - 50 MPH. Engine speed has no effect on it. When you dip the clutch it subsides slightly but not totally. Revving the car with clutch dipped has no effect on it. I have checked the tyres and they are all fine. The sump gaurd / plastic stuff is all secure. The dipping clutch having an effect makes me think it is something to do with the clutch or clutch housing.

  2. My girlfriend has an 04 Fiesta which has been the most unreliable car I have ever come across! At the moment it is making a flapping / ticking noise when you reach 40 - 50 MPH. The noise subsides slightly when you dip the clutch. Revving the engine has no effect on it. The car has done 54K miles and is serviced regularly. My thoughts are that it is something to do with the clutch.

Any ideas or whether it is something to be concerned about before I take it to the garage?

    Thanks

  3. I understand the point of taking a test but we have a really stringent driving test with theory and practice but there's still $%$(&&%'s on the road that put the fear of God up me.

&%(*&+)+*+'s will always be so, unfortunately.

They'll no soon have passed their test than they will start doing it their own way

The point I was trying to make though was that I dont think these people were acting like this because they wanted to or out of badness, it was because of ignorance. They had never been shown or told what is a safe and proper way to act when handling a gun. At the moment anyone with a clean record can apply for a SGC and say they will go clay shooting at XYZ club and it will be granted. They may never have fired a shot in their life but they will be granted a SGC.

At least a compulsory training course would educate people in the ways of gun handling. As for idiots behaving dangerously they should have their licences, SGC and driving revoked!

  4. I was on a shoot this year with a few mates and a few mates of mates, all good shots and safe. The day was meant to be 150 birds. It was a woodland shoot so you could not always see what each gun was doing. Anyway we got to the end of the day and were having a chat whilst the keeper did a count up when a mate of a mate announced he shot 17 birds on the firsty drive and 22 on the second! The bag was counted up at 332 birds!!!!

We all **** ourselves and started to worry about how much cash we had brought!

Thing was the keeper was meant to tell us when we were close to the bag!

  5. Fortune, I thought it was bad form to take a semi on a proper shoot. I was talking to a guy over my way who does a lot of shooting and organises a few and he said if anyone turned up on one of his shoots with a semi they'd be told to **** off.

But I have to say, there should be something so people are aware of the do's and don'ts of gun etiquette. As things stand at the mo, all the old bill seem to be concerned about is whether you have a record and how secure your locker is.

It is the first time Ive seen a semi auto on a driven day. It was beaters day and the guy was a friend of the keeper. It was truly spine chilling watching this cretan until he was told to **** off. One the first drive he held his gun with the butt on his shoe and his hand over the muzzle. Bolt closed and loaded. I was actually willing it to go off and save us all the danger of having him around us.

  6. And of course there is absolutely nothing to stop your average criminal buying a can of black paint is there?

It stops nothing, it is a farce and is just something else that causes legitimate users aggro.

The reason the law was passed was so that if you were out using a blank firer and someone saw you the fact that it was bright pink or orange would make it look less like a real firearm and perhaps prevent them calling out the ARV!

You can never legislate to completely scupper criminals. Anyway a bank robber is more likely to get a real gun more easily than a blank firer and then paint it black. And if the it all goes wrong he can then shoot people with the real gun rather than just make noise!

  7. Apart from the obvious importance of maths in our society, qualifications are also going to be ever more important. I was at the Department for Education on Friday and the meeting threw up some interesting facts / predictions:

China's next 5 year plan is to DESIGN and make products. At present WE (wealthy countries) design these products.

This is expected to cost up to 5 million jobs in the UK

The top ten most in demand jobs at present did not exist 10 years ago.

We are education kids to do jobs that do not exist at the moment.

The number of unskilled manual jobs will continue to decline at an ever faster rate.

The era of a job / career for life is over. The vast majority of economically active people in the future will change jobs / careers every 3 - 5 years apparently.

The only way a person can prove to an employer in the future they can do the job required is to have a nice big set of qualifications. Therefore proving they can learn quickly and in detail. They will have to prove this due to the fact that no one will be trained in that particular job due to new areas of emplyment emerging so rapidly.

Not my words - the words of the DCSF

    Most I agree with however.

  8. I agree you cannot teach common sense but you can teach basic safety. A gun is a lethal weapon and people should be trained in its safe use. Cars are a lethal weapon and we would not think twice about letting anyone apply for a driving licence with no prior experience!

Obviously the best way to learn about safety etc is to be surrounded by it from an early age but there are a lot of people now who have taken up shooting in later life with no experience.

If you have a valid rason for wanting a gun and are keen enough a compulsory test would be nothing to worry about.

  9. I can sort of agree with you with the safety sense, but i dont think that it wouldnt stop there. It wouldnt take much for them to licence shotguns the same as firearms in that you would have to apply to the rozzers before buying and even perhaps be limited to amount of cartridges held.Just remember-it was only a few decades ago that shotgun certs were bought over the counter at the post office!

At the end of the day if you are shot with a shotgun at close range by an idiot you will probably die! I have seen far too many people who dont have a clue of late. At the end of the day would licensing more like an FAC be a bad thing? If you have a reason and a use then you would get it!

  10. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding compulsory testing before getting a SGC but several events over the last few years have got me thinking.

Basically I have come across several people shooting over the last couple of years who have all the gear but clearly no idea at all.

One tried to shoot a plug of mud from the barrel of his 12 bore!

Another fired the first barrel of his gun at a clay and then turned around to talk to those spectating whilst pointing the second barrel at everyones heads and chests!

A third one took a semi auto from his car, walked to his peg (beaters day) and without doing anything ie loading the gun, fired 2 shots at a pheasant. At the end of the drive he then applied the safety catch and put the gun back in the car before recieving his marching orders from the keeper. Worrying thing is this guy had been shooting 40 odd years!

I know BASC are against any more legislation etc but suerly with idiots like this able to get a SGC with no testing it could be a matter of life and death?

  11. What about discoverys? Talking of Discos do they have automatic diff lock? Does it even exist? Was on a shoot in January where an idiot drove his disco into a bog. Only the back wheels were spinning. I told him to put it in 4wd and he said it was permenant. I told him to lock the diffs and he said it was automatic on a disco (52 reg). Is this right or was he talking ****? In the end it needed a ford Explorer with big chunky tyres to get him out!

  12. That has nothing to do with the transmission, monocoque refers to the chassis design and now used on the vast majority of cars on the road, 4x4 or not.

I think you'll find the vast majority of proper 4x4's are built on a seperate chasis still. Then again the Freelander is not a proper 4x4! Apparently with a monocoque you can get torsional twisitng of the body of the car.

  13. I insulated my kennel with 38mm polystyrene boards and then covered these with hard board to form a sandwich with the frame of the kennel. As for storage why not just install a false cieling type thing from OSB board or the like. You could then make a small door into the storage area from the outside of the kennel to avoid having to go into the run.

I also insulated the roof of my kennel with polystyrene boards as well and then put strips of 5mm thich PVC over the front door to act as a wind break curtain type thing. The dog just pushes through to get in. Inside the kennel I then have a sort of hall way if you like with a hole into the sleeping compartment and the whole kennel is raised 4-5 inches off the ground.

  14. No worries!

I gather you make guns. It has always puzzled me if you make guns at what point does it become a gun an when does it have to be entered onto a SGC? Do you need a special license or can anyone with a shotgun certificate make guns, obviously if skilled enough?

Where do you learn how to make shotguns? Where do you buy the raw materials, tools etc?

    Thanks
