  1. i dont no do they i never go to school im all ways beating or shooting lolage :hmm: wat wer they like mate

    Allow Me!

I don't Know, do they? I never got to school I'm always beating or shooting. What were they like mate.

They are bloody expensive and bloody heavy on the shoulder. For high pheasants they are brilliant however. Bit too much for closer stuff however.

  2. Years ago a friend had a gun that neede getting rid of, old farm gun in a barn type thing i think. It was a single barrel and was rusted and pitted to hell!

Anyway he thought a good thing to to was to crimp the barrel shut in a vice, tie it to a plough, tie a piece of string to the trigger, load her up hide and yank the string!

Anyway when he yanked the string there was one hell of a boom and we went to investigate only to find the shot had opened the barrel out again!!! Couldnt believe it was still in one piece after what we are warned about with snow / mud etc!

  3. I have a 1 year old cocker spaniel Dog. He is a small dog and weighs around 14KG. He is perfectly healthy and has loads of energy and is alaways wagging his tail. The problem seems to be he goes on and off his food. Over the christmas period he hardly ate anything for around a week and lost a couple of Kilos. Was just about to take him to the vet when he started eating again. Recently he has also been off his food ie only eating breakfast.

I feed him on dog mince, Chicken wings / thighs, Hearts etc. He also gets canned food as well.

Does anyone else have this and is it common? He gets about 1 - 1.5 hours exercise a day and lives in a kennel and run but gets in the house during the day at weekends and evenings midweek.

    Thanks

  5. What make / model of gun is it? Its just my experience but most pump actions I have seen have been cheap and have not pointed or shot as well as an O/U S/S etc. Cylinder choke in a pump points to it being designed to fire solid slug which may mean it is more set up like a rifle making shotgun shooting difficult.

I would steer clear of it and spend the money on a proper shotgun, or save it!

  6. .22 hmr does not exist.

.17hmr = 17 caliber Hornady Magnum Rimfire. The fastest rimfire cartridge you can buy. A 17 grain bullet at around 2550 feet per second. Ideal for rabbits and close range foxes.

.22 Rimfire or .22LR is the most common rifle calibre. A 40 grain bullet at either subsonic speed or supersonic speed. Ideal for rabbits and hares.

Rimfire means the primer is contained in the rim of the cartridge and not in a seperate primer like in a shotgun. The firing pin crushes the rim to cause detonation.

.243 is a centrefire cartridge. IE it uses a seperate primer in the base of the cartridge. It Fires anything from 55 grain bullets up to 100 grain bullets and is probably the most common centrefire cartridge in the UK. Can be used on all deer species and foxes, bullet weight permitting.

.244 - Never heard of this caliber - .204 is a fast shooting fox caliber made by ruger.

There are literally thousand of different rifle calibers in existence. To give you an idea of caliber a .22 bullet is 5.5mm in diameter. A .17 bullet 4.5mm and a .243 6mm. .22 Rimfire can and will ricochet like a tennis ball.

.17 and .243 are usually used with expanding ammunition that has a lead core covered in a copper jacket. When the bullet hits an animal the jacket peels back like a bannana skin and causes more shock to the animal causing a much quicker kill. This also reduces the risk of ricochet as the bullet tends to break up.

  7. :good: I think ill have to try it out, but then again id want to have the option of tightening the choke a little so as not to restrict myself on longer birds :good:

What kind of range would i find myself shooting pigeons?

think id still prefer the extra choke if i could get it though

When decoying the aim is to lure them within range ie 20 - 30 ish yards. Roost shooitng or flight lining and they could be higher ie 40 - 45 yards or more. Just wait until they are in range and use a decent cartridge.

How much is the gun? You can pick up cheap sxs non ejectors for less than £100 that will be more useful!

  8. If your only used to shooting full choke that is probably where the problem lies. If your full choke is producing patterns full of holes then something is wrong with the gun or your cartridges. To be honest full choke is really only suitable for long range stuff and actually makes hitting close or normal range targets more difficult and destroys meat when you do make contact.

Honestly cylinder choke will be fine up to normal distances, ie 30 - 40 yards.

  9. If you go back and read that thread again you will see that my argument was for using 6's over 7 1/2s.

The striking energy of a 6 is the same regardless of what gun it comes from, the ammount of shot will not make up for bad shooting. If you put it in the right place the bird will be killed cleanly

Ah striking energy again! But remember as you stated yourself a 7.5 pellet has more than enough energy to kill a pigeon at the maximum range of a shotgun (40 yards according to you)!

You should use 7 or 7.5 pellets in your 28 bore for a denser pattern!

  10. I have a work mate who used to work for a well know "top end" dog food brand in the product development department. The **** they put into dog food is unreal. He said it is well accepted in the industry that dry dog food causes health problems simply beacuse a dog aint designed to eat the stuff they put into dry food.

Raw meat and occasional bones etc is far healthier.
